16. Error Estimation and Adaptive Methods for Molecular Dynamics
Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of two papers that concern error estimates for the Born-Oppenheimer molecular dynamics, and adaptive algorithms for the Car-Parrinello and Ehrenfest molecular dynamics. In Paper I, we study error estimates for Born-Oppenheimer molecular dynamics with nearly crossing potential surfaces. LÄS MER
17. Real and complex operator norms
Sammanfattning : Any bounded linear operator between real (quasi-)Banach spaces T : X ® Y has a natural bounded complex linear extension TC : XC ® YC defined by the formula TC(x+iy)=Tx+iTy for x,yÎX, where XC and YC are so called reasonable complexifications of X and Y, respectively. We are interested in the exact relation between the norms of the operators TC and T. LÄS MER
18. It Breaks a Man's Heart - Socioeconomic Differences in the Onset of Cardiovascular Disease in Contemporary Sweden
Sammanfattning : This doctoral thesis investigates the relationship between socioeconomic status and the onset of cardiovascular disease in a contemporary population of natives and foreign-born individuals in Sweden. The complexity of individual socioeconomic characteristics and the interrelationship with other cardiovascular risk factors is the focus of the studies in this thesis. LÄS MER
19. Localization of N=2 Field Theories: a Twisted Path Across Four Manifolds
Sammanfattning : Supersymmetric quantum field theories provide a framework where certain physical observables can be computed exactly. In those cases, one not only has control over perturbative contributions but also over non-perturbative contributions. LÄS MER
20. Estimation of wood fibre length distributions from censored mixture data
Sammanfattning : The motivating forestry background for this thesis is the need for fast, non-destructive, and cost-efficient methods to estimate fibre length distributions in standing trees in order to evaluate the effect of silvicultural methods and breeding programs on fibre length. The usage of increment cores is a commonly used non-destructive sampling method in forestry. LÄS MER
