  1. 1. It Breaks a Man's Heart - Socioeconomic Differences in the Onset of Cardiovascular Disease in Contemporary Sweden

    Författare :Tina Hannemann; Centrum för ekonomisk demografi; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Cardiovascular disease; socioeconomic status; occupational stress; income attainment; occupational class; immigration; intermarriage; indirect impact pathways;

    Sammanfattning : This doctoral thesis investigates the relationship between socioeconomic status and the onset of cardiovascular disease in a contemporary population of natives and foreign-born individuals in Sweden. The complexity of individual socioeconomic characteristics and the interrelationship with other cardiovascular risk factors is the focus of the studies in this thesis. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Impact of targeting MYC in metabolic reprogramming and differentiation of cancer

    Författare :Lourdes Sainero Alcolado; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Alterations in several metabolic pathways due to increased energy and biomass demand, as consequence of the uncontrolled proliferation of cancer cells, is known as metabolic reprogramming. Mutations in tumor suppressor genes and oncogenes that initiate cancer development, are responsible directly and indirectly of the changes in major cellular energy production processes, including glycolysis, glutaminolysis, and lipid metabolism. 3. 3. Studies of DNA repair strategies in response to complex DNA damages

    Författare :Ainars Bajinskis; Mats Harms-Ringdahl; Bo Stenerlöw; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ionizing radiation; complex DNA damage; indirect effect of radiation; dimethyl sulfoxide; molekylärgenetik; Molecular Genetics;

    Sammanfattning : The main aim of this thesis was to study the role of the indirect actions of γ-rays and α-particles on the complexity of primary DNA damages and the repair fidelity of major DNA repair pathways: non-homologous end joining (NHEJ), homologous recombination repair (HRR) and base excision repair (BER). The complexity of radiation-induced damages increases and the proximity between damages decreases with increasing LET due to formation of ionization clusters along the particle track. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Interaction between defossilisation of basic industries and relocation : Scenario-based explorative and normative transition pathways to electrification for European basic industries and specific clusters

    Författare :Clemens Schneider; Miljö- och energisystem; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; steel; petrochemicals; defossilisation; climate-neutral production; electrification; industry clusters;

    Sammanfattning : The steel and chemical production industries are the largest industrial emitters of greenhouse gases in the European Union, together accounting for half of the EU’s industrial greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. A promising strategy for achieving deep GHG emissions reductions is the electrification of these two industries, which would depend on the rapid expansion of renewable electricity supply. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Emotion dysregulation, self-image, and eating disorders

    Författare :Elin Monell; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Eating disorders (EDs) are complex psychiatric disorders that entail great suffering, high prevalence of comorbid psychiatric and somatic conditions, and increased mortality. The understanding of how EDs develop and are maintained is unclear, although emotion- and self-related themes are highlighted in several theoretical models of EDs. LÄS MER
