1. Characterisation of Fractured Rock for Grouting Using Hydrogeological Methods
Sammanfattning : Sealing of tunnels by grouting demands knowledge concerning the fractured rock and the grout, followed by an appropriate choice of strategy and equipment. In this thesis, the characterisation of rock is the main issue and, since it addresses the engineering problem of producing a description for grouting, the properties of grout and the grouting procedure need to be considered. 2. Structural Uncertainties of Rock Fractures and their Effect on Flow and Tracer Transport
3. Hydro-Mechanical Behaviour of a Pressurised Single Fracture: An In-situ Experiment
Sammanfattning : Exploration of ground water resources, grouting, disposal of nuclear waste and extraction of geothermal energy are examples of activities which require consideration of the relationship between effective stress and transmissivity. However, this relationship is poorly understood and very few investigations have been conducted in field scale. LÄS MER
4. A Cross-Correlator for the Remote Sensing of Earth by Synthetic Aperture
Sammanfattning : In light of our changing climate and the unpredictability of severe weather; a better understanding of our climate and increased weather forecast accuracy are in high demand. Humidity and temperature distribution profiles with high temporal resolution can significantly increase our knowledge of highly dynamic weather phenomena and improve weather forecasts. LÄS MER
5. Spaceborne Synthetic Aperture Radar for Sea Ice Observations, Concentration and Dynamics
Sammanfattning : Spaceborne Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) is the primary choice for sea ice monitoring due to its all-weather, day-and-night capability and regular delivery of high resolution images. This thesis presents methods for estimation of sea ice concentration and drift, a multi-sensor study of Baltic Sea ice radar signatures and an interferometric study of landfast sea ice. LÄS MER
