11. Trees to supercapacitors: green energy storage for sustainable future
Sammanfattning : Currently the world is transitioning to a fossil free and circular economy-based development to achieve the environmental and climate objectives along with the sustainable development goals. To achieve this target, efficient use of resource materials is important, which can increase the lifetime and economic value of the resources while decreasing both the extraction of new raw materials and landfill waste. 12. Novel oil resistant cellulosic materials
Sammanfattning : The aim of this study has been to prepare and characterise oil resistant cellulosic materials, ranging from model surfaces to papers and aerogels. The cellulosic materials were made oil resistant by chemical and topographic modifications, based on surface energy, surface roughness and barrier approaches. LÄS MER
13. Thermal Conductivity of Hygroscopic Foams Based on Cellulose Nanomaterials
Sammanfattning : Biobased super-insulating materials could mitigate climate change by minimizing the use of petroleum-based materials, creating artificial carbon sinks and minimizing the energy needed to maintain pleasant interior conditions. Cellulose nanomaterials (CNM) produced from abundantly available cellulose sources constitute versatile, highly anisotropic raw materials with tunable surface chemistry and high strength. LÄS MER
14. Porous Cellulose Materials from Nano Fibrillated Cellulose
Sammanfattning : In the first part of this work a novel type of low-density, sponge-like material for the separation of mixtures of oil and water has been prepared by vapour deposition of hydrophobic silanes on ultra-porous nanocellulose aerogels. To achieve this, a highly porous (> 99 %) nanocellulose aerogel with high structural flexibility and robustness is first formed by freeze-drying an aqueous dispersion of the nanocellulose. LÄS MER
15. Development of Functionalized Protein Materials
Sammanfattning : Many proteins are available as side-streams from food production, and in some cases even from industrial waste-streams. This means that proteins are available in large scale and at a relatively low price. As protein are highly complex molecules it is interesting to try to use protein as starting materials in for applications in materials science. LÄS MER
