  1. 11. Effects of Past and Current Land Use on Biodiversity: from a semi-natural grassland on Öland (Sweden) to a European perspective

    Författare :Marie Vandewalle; Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ecosystem services; bioindicators; land-use history; Biodiversity; semi-natural grasslands conservation; habitat fragmentation; functional diversity;

    Sammanfattning : Concerns are increasing about the loss of biodiversity under land use change and how this will affect the ecosystem services provided by natural and semi-natural communities and consequently how this will threaten human well-being. The thesis examines the impact of present and past land use on different aspects of biodiversity; namely species diversity, traits and functional diversity and on ecosystem services. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Pattern and process in Alpine communities of the Northwestern Caucasus

    Författare :Galina A. Pokarzhevskaya; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecology; biodiversity; life forms; life-history strategy; microtopography; snowbedcommunities; snow melting gradient; tussock; vegetative mobility; Ekologi; Terrestrial; freshwater and marine ecology; Terrestisk; limnisk och marin ekologi; ekologisk botanik; Ecological Botany;

    Sammanfattning : Patterns in vegetation reflect certain processes affecting plant communities. The present work aims at describing patterns and revealing mechanisms operating in alpine vegetation belonging to four vegetation types: alpine lichen heaths, Festuca varia grasslands, Geranium-Hedysarum meadows and snowbed communities. 3. 13. How the sensory ecology of the bumblebee affects their functional traits

    Författare :Vun Wen Jie; Emily Baird; Mikael Carlsson; Martin How; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Bumblebee; functional morphological traits; intraspecific differences; allometry; DRA; micro-CT; co-existence; Functional Zoomorphology; funktionell zoomorfologi;

    Sammanfattning : Morphological traits are important for trait-based ecological studies as they allow for the prediction of biodiversity across the biosphere. Currently, the predictive power of trait-based ecology is not often applied to terrestrial arthropods, even though they provide us with important agricultural, ecological, and cultural value. 4. 14. Food Web Ecology -- individual life-histories and ecological processes shape complex communities

    Författare :Martin Hartvig; Evolutionär ekologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; food web; community ecology; community assembly; size-structure; life-history omnivory; ontogeny; trophic interactions; trait based model; topology; emergent organisation; size-spectrum;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis sets out a food web framework for size-structured populations. The framework enables an ecological approach to food web modelling as the individual life-history from birth, through maturation, and ultimately death is explicitly resolved with the use of bioenergetics based on individual body size. 5. 15. Plant responses after drainage and restoration in rich fens

    Författare :Kalle Mälson; Håkan Rydin; Sebastian Sundberg; Harri Vasander; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ecology; brown mosses; bryophytes; colonization; competition; dispersal limitation; liming; mire; peatland; rewetting; wetland restoration; Ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Rich fens are an important, but threatened, habitat type in the boreal landscape. In this thesis I have examined responses of rich fen vascular plants and bryophytes after drainage and restoration.The effects of drainage on the rich fen flora were observed in a long time study and the responses were rapid and drastic.
