11. Landlocked Atlantic salmon Salmo salar L. and trout Salmo trutta L. in the regulated River Klarälven, Sweden : Implications for conservation and management
Sammanfattning : Conservation and management of migratory salmonids requires an understanding of their ecology at multiple scales, and a holistic view, including assessment of historical and present anthropogenic impacts. In the regulated River Klarälven, with 11 hydropower dams, populations of landlocked Atlantic salmon Salmo salar and migratory brown trout Salmo trutta have declined due to human activities. LÄS MER
12. Population regulatory processes in the Baltic salmon (Salmo salar)
Sammanfattning : Knowledge and understanding of population regulation is the foundation that allows for sustainable harvest of natural populations. In this thesis, I explore potential sources of bias in stock recruitment relationships resulting from potential spawning behaviours, and investigate alternative methods that can be used in order to evaluate population regulatory processes and improve estimates of stock-assessments of the Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) in the Baltic Sea. 13. Relations between metabolic rate, migration and behaviour in Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) and brown trout (Salmo trutta)
Sammanfattning : ABSTRACT Migration is common among populations of brown trout (Salmo trutta) and Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar). However, not all individuals in the same population migrate, a phenomenon referred to as partial migration. LÄS MER
14. Gonad and ejaculate allocation in alternative reproductive tactics of salmon and trout with reference to sperm competition
Sammanfattning : Atlantic salmon, Salmo salar L., and brown trout, Salmo trutta L., exhibit alternative male maturation phenotypes, anadromous and precociously mature parr, which commonly endure in sperm competition at the spawning grounds. LÄS MER
15. Downstream migration of salmonids in regulated rivers : Non-conventional methods for fish diversion
Sammanfattning : Passages through hydropower plants can be fatal for downstream migrating salmonids (Salmo spp.). This is particularly true for large adults that are returning to the ocean after spawning. LÄS MER
