26. Cardiovascular disease prevention after spinal cord injury : a new challenge
Sammanfattning : Spinal cord injury (SCI) typically leads to permanent infralesional motor and sensory functional losses, pathophysiological aberrations in most organ systems and a lasting vulnerability for a variety of complicating conditions. Improvements in acute and rehabilitative management during the last decades have increased long term survival after SCI. LÄS MER
27. Brain galanin sytems and their role in depression-like behaviour
Sammanfattning : The aim of the present thesis was to investigate the role of the neuropeptide galanin and galanin receptor subtypes in behavioural functions with a particular focus on depression-like behaviour. In agreement with its wide distribution in the central nervous system, galanin has been implicated in various functions, including regulation of reproduction, endocrine functions, antinociception, attention, learning and memory as well as regulation of mood. 28. Behavioral and Electrophysiological Correlates of Inhibition in Episodic Memory
Sammanfattning : Forgetting can be highly functional when unwanted or irrelevant memory representations interfere with cognitive or motivational goals. Current theory assumes that forgetting can be brought about by the intentional or unintentional inhibition of interfering memory representations. LÄS MER
29. Who, when and how : electrophysiological studies on connectivity of striatal neurons
Sammanfattning : The nervous system has been studied in many ways and in many different organisms. Organisms that have a brain and mind or a simpler nervous system use it to sense the environment, process this sensory input and make appropriate decisions on how to act or interact with the environment. 30. Spinal cord injury : mechanical and molecular aspects
Sammanfattning : Traumatic spinal cord injury leads to full or partial paralysis and loss of sensation below the level of injury. The annual incidence of spinal cord injury in the United States is 3-5 per 100,000 and in Sweden is 1.5-2 per 100,000. This translates to 11,000 new cases of traumatic spinal cord injury in the US and 150 in Sweden each year. LÄS MER
