6. Combining Nanoplasmonics and Nanofluidics for Single Particle Catalysis
Sammanfattning : Nanoparticles are, due to their large exposed surface area, widely used in the field of heterogeneous catalysis where they accelerate and steer chemical reactions. Although catalysis has been known about for centuries, the scrutiny of catalysts under realistic application conditions is still a major challenge. LÄS MER
7. High Power Radio Frequency Solid-State Amplifiers and Combiners for Particle Accelerators : From module to system design approach
Sammanfattning : The rise of Big Science projects brings issues related to the energy consumption and the associated environmental impacts of such large-scale facilities. Therefore, environmentally-sustainable developments are undertaken towards the adoption of energy savings and improved energy-efficient approaches. LÄS MER
8. Laser-driven particle acceleration - Experimental investigations
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes experimental studies of laser-driven particle acceleration. With the focused intensity of today’s high-power lasers exceeding 10^18 W/cm2,extremely high-gradient accelerators are possible. LÄS MER
9. Exploring particle physics beyond the Standard Model
Sammanfattning : The standard model of particle physics (SM) is arguably the best tested theory of physics, providing an accurate description of virtually all high energy particle physics phenomena observable in the laboratory. However, the SM also has a number of shortcomings: some of more theoretical nature such as the fine-tuning problem of the Higgs or the strong-CP problem, and some of more phenomenological nature such as not allowing for a satisfying implementation of neutrino masses and the lack of a suitable candidate for the observed dark matter of the Universe. 10. Correlations in low-dimensional quantum many-particle systems
Sammanfattning : This thesis concerns correlation effects in quantum many-particle systems in one and two dimensions. Such systems show many exotic non-Fermi liquid phenomena, which can be treated analytically using non-perturbative field-theory methods. LÄS MER
