6. Variables affecting stress development and resin conversion in light-cured dental composites
Sammanfattning : The general aim of this dissertation was to identify and investigate factors that can be used to minimize stress development in light cured dental resins without compromising the conversion level of the polymer. Modulus of elasticity, polymerization contraction strain, degree of conversion and shrinkage of light-cure dental composites were determined after curing with three different light power densities where total irradiated energy (J/cm2) kept constant. 7. Microfluidic Compartmentalization for Smart Materials, Medical Diagnostics and Cell Therapy
Sammanfattning : The organisation of fluids in small compartments is ubiquitous in nature, such as in the cellular composition of all life. This work explores several engineering avenues where microscale fluid compartmentalization can bring novel material properties or novel functionality in life sciences or medicine. LÄS MER
8. Synthesis and characterisation of thermoset-layered silicate nanocomposites
Sammanfattning : Thermoset-layered silicate nanocomposites are materials reinforced on a molecular scale by 1 nm-thick silicate layers of high aspect ratio dispersed in a thermoset matrix. These new materials were synthesised from unsaturated polyester and several epoxy resins (DGEBA/diamines and TGDDM/DDS) using two different approaches. LÄS MER
9. Composite Cryogels: Stationary Phase for Separation of Complex Media
Sammanfattning : Demands for efficient, economical and fast separation and purification methods for various target molecules have led to the development of new techniques and materials for bioseparation processes. Separation can be carried out in both batch and chromatographic modes. LÄS MER
10. Development of New Multiscale Polymer Composites for Water Lubricated Tribological Contacts
Sammanfattning : Moving towards a Green Economy, there is a growing demand to use environmentally friendly tribological systems that has resulted in industries turning towards new mate-rials and water-based lubrication to satisfy their needs. Considering the low viscosity of water, tribological contacts lubricated with it are likely to operate in boundary/mixed lubrication regime for relatively long periods. LÄS MER
