31. Charging effects in small capacitance Josephson junction circuits
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes fabrication, measurements and analysisof two different Josephson junction circuits; the Cooper pairtransistor (CPT) and the one dimensional Josephson junctionarray (JJA). All experiments are conducted in a dilutionrefrigerator with a base temperature of 15{30 mK. LÄS MER
32. Role of the OX40 ligand/receptor pair in coronary artery disease
Sammanfattning : Atherosclerosis is the pathological basis for coronary artery disease (CAD), the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in developed countries. CAD and atherosclerosis have long been known to have a familial component and result from the interaction of several genes with a wide range of environmental and lifestyle factors. LÄS MER
33. Optical properties of silver nanostructures prepared by electron beam lithography
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, electron beam lithography (EBL) has been used to fabricate substrates for studies of nanoparticle optics, in particular for the investigation of noble metal nanoparticles and their tunable optical properties. The strong interaction of metal nanoparticles with light has its origin in the resonant excitation of collective oscillations of conduction electrons, so called localized surface plasmons (LSP). 34. Genetic variation, clonal diversity and breeding system in sedges (Carex)
Sammanfattning : In this thesis I investigate genetic variation in clonal plants within the wind-pollinated plant family Cyperaceae and, in particular, in species of Carex. Clonal diversity and the spatial distribution of clones (genets) within populations was investigated in Carex bigelowii (in Iceland and Scandinavia) and C. LÄS MER
35. Chaperone/usher machinery : a catalyst of virulence organelle assembly
Sammanfattning : Many virulence organelles of Gram-negative bacterial pathogens are assembled via the periplasmic chaperone/usher (CU) pathway. The assembly process is a complex task, involving secretion of organelle subunits via the two membranes and periplasm, subunit folding and assembly. LÄS MER
