  1. 1. Towards the Improvement of Salt Extraction from Lake Katwe Raw Materials in Uganda

    Författare :Hillary Kasedde; Pär Jönsson; Anders Tilliander; Eric Forssberg; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Lake Katwe; salt extraction; brine; evaporites; saltpan; characterization; evaporation - crystallization; solubility; Pitzer ’s ion - interaction model; PHREEQC software; dissolution kinetics; Avrami model.;

    Sammanfattning : Uganda is well endowed with economic quantities of mineral salts present in the interstitial brines and evaporite deposits of Lake Katwe, a closed (endorheic) saline lake located in the western branch of the great East African rift valley. Currently, rudimentally and artisanal methods continue to be used for salt extraction from the lake raw materials. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Sorption of Cs, Ba, Co, and Eu onto biotite: experiments and modelling

    Författare :Pawan Kumar; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cs; Biotite; Ba; titration; Eu; Co; Surface Complexation; Sorption;

    Sammanfattning : The sorption of 134Cs, 133Ba, 60Co and 152Eu, all at about [~10-8 M] onto biotite mineral was studied using the batch method with S: L = 1:50 at three different ionic strengths (0.001, 0.01 and 0.1M NaClO4) and five different pH (5,6,7,8,9) at 25°C for up to two months in an inert atmosphere glovebox. 3. 3. Sorption and weathering properties of naturally occurring chlorites

    Författare :Åsa Gustafsson; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :chlorite; nickel; sorption; surface complexation; dissolution rate.;

    Sammanfattning : Chlorite is a ferrous silicate mineral occurring as afracture filling mineral in the Swedish granite bedrock thatsurrounds the area of the candidate Swedish geologicalrepositories for nuclear waste. To investigate the importance of chlorites as a naturalbarrier for radionuclide migration sorption of Ni(II) onto anatural chlorite was chosen as the studied system. LÄS MER
