  1. 6. Characterization of the PGE2 pathway in arthritis and inflammation : mPGES-1 as a therapeutic target

    Författare :Patrick Leclerc; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The inducible prostaglandin (PG) E2 pathway is defined by the concerted activities of the enzymes cyclooxygenase (COX)-2 and microsomal prostaglandin E synthase (mPGES)-1 in producing PGE2. PGE2 has pro-inflammatory and immunomodulatory functions and is involved in an array of diseases with an autoimmune and chronic inflammatory component, including rheumatoid arthritis (RA). LÄS MER

  2. 7. Pharmacovigilance capacity in East Africa with focus on neglected tropical diseases

    Författare :Abbie Barry; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Pharmacovigilance aims to enhance patient safety in relation to the use of medicines by reducing the incidence and severity of adverse events which includes supporting public health programs by providing information on the safety profile of medicines used by the programs. In Africa, the increased access to medicinal products is not well-matched with the pharmacovigilance capacity to monitor drug safety. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Method development for isotope analysis of trace and ultra-trace elements in environmental matrices

    Författare :Nicola Pallavicini; Ilia Rodushkin; Johan Ingri; Frank Vanhaecke; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Applied Geology; Tillämpad geologi;

    Sammanfattning : The increasing load of toxic elements entering the ecosystems, as a consequence of anthropogenic processes, has grown public awareness in the last decades, resulting in a great number of studies focusing on pollution sources, transport, distribution, interactions with living organisms and remediation. Physical/chemical processes that drive the uptake, assimilation, compartmentation and translocation of heavy metals in biota has received a great deal of attention recently, since elemental concentrations and isotopic composition in biological matrices can be used as  probes of both natural and anthropogenic sources.
