  1. 31. Studies on experimental anaerobic infections of the middle ear and on the polymorphonuclear leukocyte function under anaerobic conditions

    Författare :Magnus Thore; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Otitismedia; anaerobicbacteria; experimental; nitroimidazoles; antibody; phagocytosis; anaerobiosis;

    Sammanfattning : Despite the clinical importance of anaerobic bacteria in otitis media and the uncertainty regarding the proper treatment of the anaerobic focal infection, few experimental studies focused upon the role of these microorganisms in otitis media have been published. In the present investigation a guinea-pig model for the induction of anaerobic monoinfections in the middle ear was described. LÄS MER

  2. 32. Metachromatic cells and eosinophils in atopic children : A prospective study

    Författare :Magnus Persson Borres; Göran Karlsson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Metachromatic cells and eosinophil leukocytes were studied prospectively in 64 newborns with and without a family history of atopic disease (FH). Cellfindings in nasal mucosa and peripheral blood were related to development of atopic symptoms up to 18 months of age. For this purpose, a gentle scraping method suitable for infants was developed. 3. 33. The structural diversity of lipopolysaccharides expressed by genetically defined clinical isolates of nontypeable Haemophilus influenzae

    Författare :Martin Månsson; Elke K. H. Schweda; Jane Thomas-Oats; Södertörns högskola; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nontypeable Haemophilus influenzae NTHi ; lipopolysaccharide LPS ; nuclear magnetic resonance NMR spectroscopy; electrospray ionization mass spectrometry ESIMS ; structural analysis.;

    Sammanfattning : Nontypeable Haemophilus influenzae (NTHi) is an important cause of otitis media and respiratory tract infections. Its lipopolysaccharide (LPS) molecule, an outer membrane component, is a major virulence factor of NTHi. The LPS molecule may also be an efficient target for antibodies which might be protective against NTHi disease. LÄS MER

  4. 34. Structural studies of lipopolysaccharides expressed by non-typeable Haemophilus influenzae and Haemophilus parainfluenzae strains

    Författare :Varvara Vitiazeva; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The present thesis describes lipopolysaccharide (LPS) structures expressed by non-typeable Haemophilus influenzae and Haemophilus parainfluenzae strains. LPS is a major surface component of Gram-negative bacteria. LÄS MER

  5. 35. Nasopharynx and mucosa associated lymphatic tissue : studies on mucosal immunity, nasopharyngeal colonization with non-encapsulated non-typable Haemophilus influenzae and local administration of immunoglobulin in the upper respiratory tract

    Författare :Karin Lindberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Nasopharyngeal colonization with non-encapsulated Haemophilus influenzae (NTHI) frequently occurs in infants and in adults with common variable immunodeficiency (CVID), but is rarely found among healthy adults. In children with recurrent episodes of acute otitis media (RAOM), NTHI is more common than in healthy individuals. LÄS MER
