  1. 21. Transmyringeal middle ear ventilation : an experimental approach to evaluation of its benefits and consequences

    Författare :Ove Söderberg; Sten Hellström; Lars-Eric Stenfors; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Middle ear; tympanic membrane; otitis media; heat myringotomy; laser myringotomy; tympanostomy tube; transmyringeal ventilation;

    Sammanfattning : A prerequisite for a functioning middle ear is an air-filled middle ear cavity. Aeration of the middle ear cavity is controlled by the Eustachian tube. Dysfunction of the Eustachian tube has long been acknowledged as a significant etiological factor in disorders of the middle ear, especially middle ear effusions. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Immunogenicity and protective potential of Protein D of Haemophilus influenzae against H. influenzae infection

    Författare :Mustafa Akkoyunlu; Malmö Klinisk mikrobiologi; []

    Sammanfattning : Both Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) and nontypeable H. influenzae (NTHi) are important human pathogens causing invasive and mucosal infections. Currently there are number of vaccines available against Hib infections. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Middle ear structure in relation to function : the rat in middle ear research

    Författare :Nils Albiin; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :rats; Eustachian tube; ear; middle; tympanic membrane; palatal muscles; mucous membrane; blood vessels; mast cells; otitis media; microscopy; electron;

    Sammanfattning : The present study was undertaken to evaluate the rat as a model for middle ear research. The rat was chosen primarily because the gross structure of its middle ear shows several similarities to that of man. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Multifunctional roles of plasmin in inflammation : Studies of animal models on rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, wound healing and infection

    Författare :Jinan Li; Peter Carmeliet; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Plasmin; complement; inflammation; wound healing; infection; autoimmune disease; non-autoimmune disease; rheumatoid arthritis; multiple sclerosis; tympanic membrane; otitis media; medicinsk biokemi; Medical Biochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : Plasmin has been suggested to be involved in degradation of extracellular matrix (ECM) and tissue remodeling during a number of physiological and pathological processes. The aims of this thesis were to study the functional roles of plasmin during pathological inflammation in autoimmune and nonautoimmune disease models of rheumatoid arthritis (RA), multiple sclerosis (MS), wound healing and infection. 5. 25. Inflammatory mediators and immunocompetent cells in the middle ear with particular regards to otitis media and tympanosclerosis

    Författare :Marie Forséni Flodin; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :immunohistochemistry; inflammation; human middle ear; myringosclerosis; otitis media; rat; tympanosclerosis;

    Sammanfattning : Tympanosclerosis is a well known sequela after acute and chronic otitis media. The pathologically calcified plaques are most commonly found in the tympanic membrane and if located only at this site, it is termed myringosclerosis. LÄS MER
