16. Fine and ultrafine particle exposure: Health effects and biomarkers
Sammanfattning : Particle, especially fine and ultrafine particle exposure has been linked to lower airway infections, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), ischemic heart disease, stroke and cancer. The underlying mechanisms are under active investigation, and are still not fully understood. LÄS MER
17. Renewable diesel fuels and emission control strategies : Implications for occupational exposure, human health, and the environment
Sammanfattning : Combustion of fossil diesel is a major environmental problem for both the climate and human health. Renewable diesel fuels have been developed and introduced to the market to reduce the net CO2 emissions. LÄS MER
18. Protein Modifications by Low Molecular Weight Chemicals Inducing Airways Diseases
Sammanfattning : Airways diseases are one of the most common health effects in the western world today. It has been shown that low molecular weight chemicals (LMWC) can cause airways diseases. The mechanisms for these diseases are not well known in most cases. Also, methods for biological monitoring of exposure are not available for many of these LMWC. LÄS MER
19. Novel Methods for Sampling, Characterization and Analysis of Airborne Street Particles in a Health Perspective
Sammanfattning : Over the last decades, there has been much attention on air quality, especially in urban environments. A significant factor effecting the air quality in the urban environment is airborne particulate matter (PM). Long-term exposure to PM causes increased risk for heart disease, decreased lung function, exacerbation of asthma, and lung cancer. LÄS MER
20. Experimental studies on acute health effects of acrolein and other aldehydes
Sammanfattning : Aldehydes are reactive and ubiquitous in indoor as well as outdoors and can give rise to significant health problems in humans, e.g. irritation of the eyes and toxic effects on the upper respiratory tract. This thesis focuses on the irritating and inflammatory properties of three commonly occurring aldehydes; acrolein, crotonaldehyde and hexanal. LÄS MER
