1. Development and Use of Optical Sensors in Modern Analytical Chemistry
Sammanfattning : A successful long-term high resolution imaging experiment in marine sediments was performed (17 days within the sample; Paper I). The time correlated calibration procedure was evolved to include parametric sigmoidal and logarithmic functions to provide three of the best performing (optical) pH sensors available up to date (Papers II, III and IV), precision of these sensors were in the 0. 2. Nanoparticle plasmon influence on the charge carrier generation in solar cells
Sammanfattning : Global warming is a potential threat to life on earth and to human society. It is by much evidence linked to the extensive use of fossil fuels in our present energy system. Replacing the fossil fuels by alternative sources of energy poses a tremendous challenge for mankind, but is not at all undoable. LÄS MER
3. Novel methods for improving rapid paper-based protein assays with gold nanoparticle detection
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes methods for improving sensitivity in rapid singleplex and multiplex microarray assays. The assays utilize the optical characteristics of colloidal gold nanoparticles for the colorimetric detection of proteins.Multiplexed detection in sandwich immunoassays is limited by cross-reactivity between different detection antibodies. 4. Synthesis, Surface Modification, and Characterization of Metal Oxide Nanoparticles : Nanoprobes for Signal Enhancement in Biomedical Imaging
Sammanfattning : In this thesis we investigate crystalline metal oxide nanoparticles of our own design to obtain nanoprobes for signal enhancement and bioimaging purposes. We report fabrication, surface modification and characterization of nanoparticles based on zinc (Zn), and rare earths (i.e. gadolinium (Gd) and europium (Eu)) singly and in combination. LÄS MER
5. Metal Oxide Nanoparticles for Contrast Enhancement in Magnetic Resonance Imaging : Synthesis, Functionalization and Characterization
Sammanfattning : This thesis work focuses on the design and production of nanoparticle based contrast agents for signal enhancement in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Three different synthesis routes are explored, primarily to produce crystalline gadolinium oxide (Gd2O3) nanoparticles, and surface modification is done to obtain stable, dispersible, biocompatible probes inducing high proton relaxivities.
