41. Walking efficiently with smart springs
Sammanfattning : Numerous assistive exoskeletons have been developed in recent years to assist walking in individuals with and without motor disorders. A standard metric to measure the efficacy of assistance is the change in the metabolic energy cost between unassisted and assisted conditions. LÄS MER
42. Skeletal muscle PGC-1α1 and KAT enzymes at the intersection between depression and metabolic disease
Sammanfattning : Depression and metabolic diseases are leading causes of disability and major contributors to socioeconomic burden worldwide. Physical activity exerts many beneficial effects that confer direct health improvement in individuals suffering from these disorders. LÄS MER
43. Mechanisms regulating metabolic and mitogenic events in skeletal muscle : implications for insulin resistance and exercise
Sammanfattning : Reduced glucose transport in skeletal muscle is a hallmark feature of Type II diabetes. Numerous mechanisms acutely or chronically regulate skeletal muscle glucose transport. The role of GLUT4, mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPK), and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor [gamma] (PPAR[gamma]) were examined in skeletal muscle. LÄS MER
44. The Cross-Talk between GABA Signalling and Metabolic Hormones in the Brain and Pancreatic Islets
Sammanfattning : GABA is a well-known neurotransmitter that can be synthesized in the central nervous system (CNS) and, interestingly, also in pancreatic islets. Once released, GABA activates GABA-A channels tonically or transiently resulting in different physiological functions. LÄS MER
45. Polycystic ovary syndrome : a study of adipocyte lipolysis in relation to endocrine and metabolic status
Sammanfattning : The aim of the present thesis was to obtain insight into possible regulatory effects of androgens on the regulation of lipolysis in subcutaneous as well as visceral adipose tissue in women with the polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). In non-obese women with PCOS, adrenergic lipolysis was investigated in both subcutaneous abdominal and visceral adipose tissue and several, novel disturbances were found. LÄS MER
