  1. 21. Physiology of Caldicellulosiruptor saccharolyticus: a hydrogen cell factory

    Författare :Karin Willquist; Teknisk mikrobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; growth activation; hydrogen tolerance; hydrogen yields CO2 inhibition; physiology; enzyme kinetics; Caldicellulosiruptor saccharolyticus; biohydrogen; energy metabolism;

    Sammanfattning : A high substrate conversion efficiency is a prerequisite for an economically feasible biohydrogen production. Caldicellulosiruptor saccharolyticus is a strictly anaerobic extreme thermophilic bacterium that is able to convert the theoretical maximum of 4 mol/mol glucose to H2. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Astrocytic communication and cell death during metabolic depression and oxidative stress

    Författare :Christina Nodin; Göteborgs universitet; Göteborgs universitet; Gothenburg University; []
    Nyckelord :astrocyte; gap junction; ATP; ROS; oxidative stress; Annexin V; AIF; programmed cell death; Nrf2; scavenger; iodoacetate; SIN-1;

    Sammanfattning : Stroke is a major cause of death and adult disability in the western world. Most often, stroke is caused by the occlusion of a brain artery. Within the perfusion territory of the occluded vessel, various degrees of necrotic and delayed programmed cell death will occur if the occlusion persists, leading to expanding tissue damage. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Metabolism-dependent activation of food and environmental mutagens in endothelial cells

    Författare :Anita Annas; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutical biosciences; Farmaceutisk biovetenskap; Biopharmacy; Biofarmaci; Toxicology; toxikologi;

    Sammanfattning : The endothelial cells of blood vessels have been proposed as a target for toxic effects ofxenobiotics in the cardiovascular system. In the present studies, induction of cytochromeP450 1A (CYP1A) enzymes and metabolic activation of food and environmentalmutagens were examined in endothelial cells of rodents, birds, and humans. 4. 24. Cross-regulation between TGFβ/BMP Signalling and the metabolic LKB1 pathway

    Författare :Erna Raja; Aristidis Moustakas; Tomi Mäkelä; Uppsala University Faculty of Medicine Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cell signalling; TGFbeta; BMP; LKB1; AMPK; Molekylär cellbiologi; Molecular Cellbiology;

    Sammanfattning : Cell signalling determines physiological responses to many cellular stimuli and environmental changes. The transforming growth factor-beta (TGFβ)/bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) signalling pathways begin by binding of ligand to the heterodimeric receptor complex, followed by activation of Smads that translocate to the nucleus to regulate transcription of genes that further mediate cellular physiology. 5. 25. Metabolic and Endocrine Response in the Acute Stage of Subarachnoid Hemorrhage

    Författare :Christoffer Nyberg; Elisabeth Ronne Engström; Torbjörn Karlsson; Lars Hillered; Silvana Naredi; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Subarachnoid hemorrhage; Energy Expenditure; BNP; Animal Model; Cortisol; Microdialysis; Neurokirurgi; Neurosurgery;

    Sammanfattning : The rupture of an aneurysm in subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) is a dramatic event causing a severe impact on the brain and a transient or permanent ischemic condition. Several types of responses to meet the challenges of SAH have been found in the acute phase, including activation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis and the sympathetic nervous system, elevated levels of brain natriuretic peptide (BNP), and disturbances in cerebral and systemic metabolism.
