21. Improved Usage of Wood Raw Material through Modification of the Kraft Process
Sammanfattning : The kraft process is a complex system with many variables, and though the process is fairly well understood, there is still much we do not know. This thesis examines some aspects of the kraft process that could prove to be of interest for the pulp and paper industry, specifically, the impact of wood chip impregnation and of the chemical structure of xylan on spruce kraft pulp. 22. Synthesis and Characterization of Some Nanostructured Materials for Visible Light-driven Photo Processes
Sammanfattning : Nanostructured materials for visible light driven photo-processes such as photodegradation of organic pollutants and photoelectrochemical (PEC) water oxidation for hydrogen production are very attractive because of the positive impact on the environment. Metal oxides-based nanostructures are widely used in these photoprocesses due to their unique properties. LÄS MER
23. Seagrass Respiration : An assessment of oxygen consumption patterns of temperate marine macrophytes
Sammanfattning : In coastal seas, the abundance of marine macrophytes has profound influence on the flows of oxygen and inorganic carbon through the water. Vast amounts of carbon dioxide are taken up by photosynthesis and part of this is respired back into the water column. LÄS MER
24. Controlled growth of metastable Ta3N5 semiconducting films
Sammanfattning : The semiconductor tritantalum pentanitride (Ta3N5) is a promising material for green energy applications, specifically in the photoelectrolysis of water to produce oxygen and hydrogen. With a bandgap of approximately 2 eV, Ta3N5 is well-suited for efficient solar light absorption across a broad spectrum, and its band positions align favorably with the redox potential of water. 25. Novel methods to study mitochondrial gene expression and homeostasis
Sammanfattning : Mitochondria are semi-autonomous organelles that harbor one of the main cellular processes – energy conversion. Nutrients available in the environment are taken up by cells and transformed into metabolites that can be used for synthesis of ATP, the energy currency of the cell. LÄS MER
