  1. 1. Fungal communities of West African ectomycorrhizal woodlands

    Författare :Brendan R. Furneaux; Martin Ryberg; Matthew Smith; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ectomycorrhizal fungi; West Africa; metabarcoding; Sudanian woodlands; community ecology; ethnomycology; edible mushrooms; fungi; Biology with specialization in Systematics; Biologi med inriktning mot systematik;

    Sammanfattning : Ectomycorrhizal symbiosis is a widespread mutualist relationship between fungi and plants, often trees. It is most well-known in temperate and boreal forests, but also occurs in a variety of tropical ecosystems, including Sudanian savanna woodlands and gallery forests in West Africa. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Combined production of edible mushrooms and biofuels from lignocellulosic residues

    Författare :Feng Chen; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Sammanfattning : Forest residues, wood-processing by-products and other lignocellulosic materials are promising renewable resources for bioconversion to advanced biofuels such as cellulosic ethanol. Increased production of biofuels from lignocellulosic materials would allow reducing environmental problems caused by the use of fossil resources while supporting development of bioeconomy. LÄS MER

    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ChemGPS-NP analysis; antileukemic agents; lanostanoids; sesterterpenoids; manoalide; Pharmacognosy; Farmakognosi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis investigates the anti-leukemic activity of terpenoids isolated from medicinal mushrooms and marine sponges, as well as their possible targets and mechanisms of action.In the first section, we focused on studying the triterpenoidal components of three triterpenoid-enriched medicinal mushrooms Antrodia cinnamomea, Ganoderma lucidum, and Poria cocos, which have been used in folk medicine for centuries and also developed into several contemporary marketed products. 4. 4. Production and quantification of eritadenine, a cholesterol reducing compound in shiitake (Lentinus edodes)

    Författare :Josefine Enman; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Biokemisk processteknik; Biochemical Process Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : Cardiovascular diseases are among the main causes of death in our society and there is a strong correlation between enhanced blood cholesterol levels and the development of such diseases. The popular edible fungus, shiitake mushroom (Lentinus edodes), has been shown to produce a blood cholesterol lowering compound designated eritadenine, and the hypocholesterolemic action of this compound has been quite extensively examined in rats. 5. 5. On the Size and Shape of Polymers and Polymer Complexes : A Computational and Light Scattering Study

    Författare :Tomas Edvinsson; Terence Cosgrove; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physics; Monte Carlo simulations; grafted polymers; shape description; folding complexity; clustering; percolation algorithm; light scattering; end-capped polymers; inclusion complexes; Fysik; Physics; Fysik; Physical Chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Detailed characterization of size and shape of polymers, and development of methods to elucidate the mechanisms behind shape transitions are central issues in this thesis. In particular we characterize grafted polymer chains under confinement in terms of the chain entanglement complexity and mean molecular size. LÄS MER
