    Sammanfattning : Transition on wind turbine blades is a highly complex phenomenon due to the myriad effects influencing the process. This thesis studies some of them, namely free-stream turbulence (FST), rotation, and three-dimensionality. The investigations employ large eddy simulations (LES) with and without (implicit or wall-resolved LES) a subgrid-scale model. LÄS MER

    Författare :Christian Carlsson; Strömningsteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Decomposition techniques; Proper orthogonal decomposition; Dynamic mode decomposition; Extended dynamic mode decomposition; Swirl switching; Swirling flow; Low swirl burner; Fluid-structure interaction;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis presents the utilization of two different decomposition techniques, proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) and dynamic mode decomposition (DMD), for enhanced understanding of flow structures and their stability. The advantages of these techniques are shown for a range of flow situations, most of which are turbulent. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Drift and Mirror Modes in Magnetized Plasmas

    Författare :Ingmar Sandberg; Padma Shukla; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Astronomy; tokamak plasma; drift waves; space plasma; mirror instability.; Astronomi; Astronomy and astrophysics; Astronomi och astrofysik; Space and Plasma Physics; rymd- och plasmafysik;

    Sammanfattning : Low frequency plasma instabilities driven by plasma inhomogeneity and velocity anisotropies are major candidates for the explanation of various phenomena observed in fusion and space plasmas. For low-β fusion plasma, the influence of plasma rotation and finite ion temperature on the structure and the type of toroidal drift eigenmodes in tokamaks is investigated rigorously, including the effects induced by the toroidal geometry such as the coupling mode, the radial variation of plasma rotation velocity and the magnetic shear.
