12. Analysis of underground concrete pipelines subjected to seismic high-frequency loads
Sammanfattning : Buried pipelines are tubular structures that are used for transportation of important liquid materials and gas in order to provide safety for human life. During an earthquake, imposed loads from soil deformations on concrete pipelines may cause severe damages, possibly causing disturbance in vital systems, such as cooling of nuclear power facilities. 13. Groundwater Vulnerability Assessment to pollution in Different Soil and Rock Materials
Sammanfattning : The augmentation of human population regularly corresponds with change in the land cover, including expansion of urban areas, which imposes increasing the available amount of domestic and drinking water. The study area, Halabja-Saidsadiq Basin, is situated in the Northeast of Iraq and is one of the major groundwater sources of the region. LÄS MER
14. Large-scale testing of granular material
Sammanfattning : The main problem to investigate in this study is if larger grained materials, up to 200 mm nominal size, could be used as an embankment material for high-speed railways. High-speed railways have very strict settlement requirements, allowing only very small settlements to ensure safety. LÄS MER
15. Laboratory Investigations of Frost Action Mechanisms in Soils
Sammanfattning : Phase change of the water in the soil skeleton under cold climate conditions (also known as frost action in soils) affects soil properties and can be responsible for serious alterations in a soil body; causing damages (due to the volumetric expansion known as frost heave) to structures on or below the ground surface such as foundations, roads, railways, retaining walls and pipelines, etc. In order to improve the current design methods for roads against frost action, the Swedish Transport Administration (Trafikverket) has initiated a research program.
