  1. 1. Ambulatory blood pressure and components of the metabolic syndrome in the population : With reference to the renin-angiotensin system, IgF-I, IGFBP-1, neuropentide Y, and leptin

    Författare :Fredrik Nyström; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : The term "the metabolic syndrome" has been given to the constellation of insulin resistance, high blood pressure and hyperlipidemia. In western countries it is strongly associated with obesity and atherosclerosis. The cause of the metabolic syndrome is, however, incompletely understood. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Erythrocyte amino acids in health and renal failure and their association to the IGF-I/IGFBP-1 axis

    Författare :José Carolino Divino Filho; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :amino acid; ASP DNA; catabolism dialysis; erythrocytes; glutamate; glutamine; health; human; IGF-I; IGFBP-1; muscle; plasmaprotein intake; rat; renal failure; uraemia;

    Sammanfattning : Abnormalities in amino acids (AA) metabolism in uraemia have mainly been reported to occur in plasma and muscle. No investigation has been undertaken to evaluate the AA levels in plasma, muscle and red blood cells (RBC) simultaneously, although the RBC pool of free AA constitutes a large proportion of the free AA in blood, and RBC are involved in the interorgan transport of AA. 3. 3. IGF-I in growth hormone deficiency and in type 1 diabetes

    Författare :Bertil Ekman; Jens Sandahl Christiansen; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Both GH-deficiency and type 1 diabetes are associated with low IGF-I levels. The aim with our studies was to develop a dose titration model to obtain physiological IGF-I levels in growth hormone deficiency and to evaluate the relationship between glycaemic control and IGF-I in diabetes. 4. 4. The HPA axis in type 2 diabetes : some aspects in relation to insulin sensitivity, beta-cell function and IGF-I/IGFBP-1

    Författare :Lisa Arnetz; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is characterized by insulin resistance and β-cell failure, abdominal obesity, hypertension and dyslipidemia. These symptoms are also characteristic of states of hypercortisolism. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Regulation of insulin-like growth factor binding protein-1 (IGFBP-1) and implications in catabolic conditions

    Författare :Björn Lindgren; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis has studied the regulation of IGFBP-1 (insulin-like growth factor binding protein 1), which is one factor regulating the bioavailability of IGF-I with special interest how IGFBP-1 is regulated in vitro and in humans, especially in diabetes and catabolic conditions. The IGFBP-1 cDNA was cloned and used for studies in human hepatoma cells, HepG2, which showed that both insulin and IGF-I could decrease IGFBP-1 in the cell conditioned medium. LÄS MER
