  1. 26. LIVING WITH PARASITES: AVIAN MALARIA, TELOMERE LENGTH AND LIFE HISTORY TRADE-OFFS

    Författare :Asghar Muhammad; MEMEG; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Avian malaria; Plasmodium; qPCR; parasitemia; life history; reproduction; survival; feather growth; MHC; telomere length; heritability; telomere loss; fitness; wild population; Acrocephalus arundinaceus; Delichon urbica;

    Sammanfattning : Haemosporidia is a well-studied group of parasites, which infect mammals, reptiles and birds and use blood sucking vectors for their transmission. By conducting natural population studies and experimental infections, We have been able to detect and quantify Haemosporidia from avian blood to investigate how these pathogens affect their avian hosts. 2. 27. Hemiparasites in the Subarctic: Resource acquisition, growth and population dynamics

    Författare :Carin H Nilsson; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; population dynamics; selectivity; Phenotypic plasticity; fitness; Plant ecology; Växtekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Parasitic plants are found in nearly every major terrestrial ecosystem and can be divided into two groups, holoparasites (lacking chlorophyll) and hemiparasites (chlorophyllous). The host-parasite connection is either situated above (stem parasites) or below ground (root parasites). LÄS MER

  3. 28. Interactions between natural enemies and the dioecious herb Silene dioica

    Författare :Viktoria Pettersson; Barbara E. Giles; Lars Ericson; Pia Mutikainen; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Silene dioica; Delia criniventris; Caryocolum viscariella; Microbotryum violaceum; plant-herbivore interactions; plant -pathogen interactions; sex bias; sex rato; successional gradients; fitness effects; Skeppsvik Archipelago; Terrestrial ecology; Terrestisk ekologi; ekologisk botanik; Ecological Botany;

    Sammanfattning : About 6% of all angiosperms are dioecious. This separation of sexual function to male and female individuals, and the fundamentally different patterns of reproductive resource allocation that follows that separation, are thought to have important ecological and evolutionary consequences for plant enemy interactions. 4. 29. Cause-Specific Mortality and Physical Fitness in Mental Disorders - Epidemiological and Internventional Studies

    Författare :Malin Henriksson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Mental disorders; Anxiety Disorders; Physical fitness; Exercise; Intervention Studies; Primary Health Care; Dose-response; Randomized Controlled Trial;

    Sammanfattning : Mental illnesses are common and constitute a substantial health-related and financial burden on both the individual and society. Mental disorders in general have increased risk of somatic morbidity. An early age of onset is commonly seen in anxiety disorders and the prevalence of these disorders has increased in youth in recent years. LÄS MER
