21. ICELANDIC NURSING HOME RESIDENTS: THEIR MORTALITY, HEALTH, FUNCTIONAL PROFILE, AND CARE QUALITY, USING THE MINIMUM DATA SET OVER TIME
Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis was to investigate trends over time in residents’ health status, functional profile and predictors of mortality at admission to Icelandic nursing homes and in addition to determine upper and lower thresholds for Minimum Data Set (MDS) Quality Indicators, to investigate the prevalence of quality indicators over time and their association with the health status and functional profile of residents in Icelandic nursing homes. Studies I and II included 2,206 persons assessed over 11 years (1996-2006). LÄS MER

23. Epidemiological studies of vacuum extraction delivery : incidence, risk factors and subsequent childbearing
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to bring focus on factors and outcomes associated with vacuum extraction delivery (VE). Delivery by VE is associated with both maternal risks (such as obstetric anal sphincter ruptures, postpartum hemorrhage and a negative birth experience) and infant risks (such as scalp lacerations, cephalohematoma, intracranial hemorrhage and brachial plexus injury). 25. Osteoarthritis. Epidemiologic and genetic aspects
Sammanfattning : The purpose of this study was to (I) assess the association between body mass index (BMI) and total hip replacement (THR) and total knee replacement (TKR) due to osteoarthritis (OA), (II) assess the association between the mechanical load of work and THR and TKR due to OA, (III) evaluate the natural history of radiographic hip OA with regards to THR and hip fracture, (IV) to determine the prevalence of radiographic OA in patients with hip fracture, and (V) to examine and compare the inheritance patterns of THR for OA and hip fracture. OA was previously regarded as a consequence of the wear and tear the joint is subjected to during one’s lifetime. LÄS MER
