  1. 1. FPGA-based Instrumentation for Advanced Physics Experiments

    Författare :Attila Hidvégi; Samuel Silverstein; Martin Grossmann; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Instrumentation; Data acquisition; clock distribution; trigger; FPGA; PCB; LHC; ATLAS; XFEL; fysik; Physics;

    Sammanfattning : Modern physical experiments often demand advanced instrumentation based on advances in  technology. This work describes four instrumentation physics projects that are based on modern, high-capacity Field-Programmable Gate Arrays, making use of their versatility, programmability, high bandwidth communication interfaces and signal processing capabilities. 2. 2. Detector Development, Source Characterization and Novel Applications of Laser Ion Acceleration

    Författare :Lovisa Senje; Atomfysik; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Laser; Ion; Acceleration; Proton; Water; Sheath; Lifetime; Laser; Ion; Acceleration; Proton; Water; Radiolysis; Sheath; Detector; Fysicumarkivet A:2017:Senje;

    Sammanfattning : The main focus of the work presented in this thesis is on experimental studies oflaser acceleration of protons and other positive ions from solid targets. The topic is explored from three different angles: firstly, the development of diagnostics adapted to the ion pulses, secondly, the characterization of the source of the energetic particles and, finally, the application of laser-accelerated protons for time-resolved radiolysis of glass and water. 3. 3. Aspects of the ATLAS ITk Inner Tracker development for the high luminosity upgrade of the Large Hadron Collider

    Författare :Jonas Steentoft; Richard Brenner; Rebeca Gonzalez Suarez; Matti Kalliokoski; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ATLAS ITk; Detector instrumentation; Applied physics; Fysik med inriktning mot elementarpartikelfysik; Physics with specialization in Elementary Particle Physics;

    Sammanfattning : The High Luminosity upgrade of the Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC), necessitates that the ATLAS experiment replace their current Inner Detector (ID) system. The new Inner Tracker (ITk) will be an all silicon detector, utilising both pixel and strip sensors, with the aim of performing as well, or better than the current system - but in a much more challenging environment. 4. 4. Instrumentation for silicon tracking at the HL-LHC

    Författare :Rebecca Carney; Samuel Silverstein; Sara Strandberg; Thomas Schön; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Instrumentation; physics; particle physics; atlas; radiation damage; neuromorphic; kalman filter; fysik; Physics;

    Sammanfattning : In 2027 the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN will enter a high luminosity phase, deliver- ing 3000 fb 1 over the course of ten years. The High Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) will increase the instantaneous luminosity delivered by a factor of 5 compared to the current operation pe- riod. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Instrumentation development for physics with antiproton beams

    Författare :Klas Marcks von Würtemberg; Per-Erik Tegnér; Eberhard Widmann; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fysik; Physics;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis summarises work done in the preparation for the PANDA (antiproton ANnihilations at DArmstadt) experiment, that will be built at the HESR (High Energy Storage Ring) at FAIR (Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research) and for the PAX (Polarised Antiproton eXperiment) experiment proposed for the HESR.For PANDA, characteristics of the electromagnetic calorimeter have been measured at the tagged photon beam facility at the MAX IV laboratory for 61 photon energies in the range 12-63 MeV.
