11. A search for neutralino dark matter with the AMANDA-B10 detector
Sammanfattning : If supersymmetric particles in the form of neutralinos are part of the dark matter halo in our Galaxy, they can accumulate gravitationally in the center of the Earth and pair-wise annihilate therein. Such annihilations can be observed as an excess signal of vertical up-moving neutrino induced muon tracks in a neutrino detector like AMANDA. LÄS MER
12. Solid state NMR of multiple-spin systems
Sammanfattning : Many nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) experiments subject the nuclear spins to time-periodic modulations, for example, mechanical sample rotation and irradiation by periodic radio-frequency pulse sequences. An efficient simulation algorithm (COMPUTE) has been proposed for calculating NMR spectra from such systems. LÄS MER
13. Colorectal cancer treatment and early response evaluation : how do we best evaluate treatment response?
Sammanfattning : Colorectal cancer (CRC) is common, being responsible for around 12% of new cancers in Sweden, and contributing heavily to the large numbers of cancer deaths yearly. CRC is the second most common cause of cancer death not only in Sweden but also worldwide. LÄS MER
14. Regulation of gene and protein expression : two model systems
Sammanfattning : Genetic information is expressed by DNA transcription and mRNA translation. With few exceptions, every cell of an organism, or the human body, contains the same genetic information. Yet the structure and function of different tissues are highly variable. LÄS MER
15. Health economic evaluation methods for decision-making in preventive dentistry
Sammanfattning : The aims of this thesis were to evaluate caries-preventive measures from a societal perspective, to demonstrate the use of resources in preventive dentistry, to develop and discuss techniques suitable for evaluating dental care costs and outcomes, and to test costs and consequences within a health economic decision model adapted to preventive dental care. The thesis is based on three separate studies with three separate cohorts. LÄS MER
