  2. 22. Studies on the molecular regulation of bile acids and lipoproteins in human liver

    Författare :Lisa-Mari Nilsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Elevated lipid levels in the bloodstream, in particular high levels of LDL cholesterol, are a major risk factor for the development of atherosclerosis. The liver has a central role in cholesterol metabolism and is the only organ capable of a quantitative elimination of cholesterol from the body. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Functional study of nuclear receptors and bile acids in the modulation of cholesterol homeostasis

    Författare :Xiaoli Hu; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Cholesterol carries multiple biological functions in the body, and imbalanced cholesterol metabolism leads to atherosclerosis and cardiovascular diseases. The present thesis aims to extend the knowledge of cholesterol metabolic regulation mediated by nuclear receptor LXRs and bile acids, two major players in the homeostasis of body cholesterol. 5. 25. Steroids and bile acids in intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy : effects of treatment with ursodeoxycholic acid

    Författare :Ling-Jie Meng; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : A method permitting simultaneous analysis of individual steroid hormone metabolites and bile acids in different forms of conjugation in serum and urine was established. Total bile acids and neutral steroids were extracted from human serum or urine with octadecylsilane-bonded silica, separated into different groups of conjugates by anion-exchange chromatography and analyzed by fast atom bombardment mass spectrometry.
