  1. 11. Bio-based recovery of organic carbon from municipal waste streams : Process optimization and microbial community dynamics

    Författare :Isaac Owusu-Agyeman; Zeynep Cetecioglu; Elzbieta Plaza; Piet Lens; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Chemical Engineering; Kemiteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Resource recovery from waste contributes to the transition to a sustainable society. Municipal organic wastes have enormous potential for resource recovery due to the inherent organic content which makes it possible to obtain bio-based chemicals and bioenergy. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Anaerobic digestion in the kraft pulp and paper industry : Challenges and possibilities for implementation

    Författare :Eva-Maria Ekstrand; Bo H Svensson; Annika Björn (Fredriksson); David Bastviken; Jukka Rintala; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Pulp and paper; anaerobic digestion; fibre sludge; activated sludge; condensates; bleaching wastewater; wastewater treatment; methane; degradability; nutrient recirculation; Pappers- och massa; anaerob nedbrytning; fiberslam; aktivt slam; kondensat; vattenrening; metan; nedbrytbarhet; näringsåterföring;

    Sammanfattning : The pulp and paper industry is a large producer of wastewater and sludge, putting high pressure on waste treatment. In addition, more rigorous environmental legislation for pollution control and demands to increase the use of renewable energy have put further pressure on the pulp and paper industry’s waste treatment, where anaerobic digestion (AD) and the production of methane could pose a solution. 3. 13. Mitigating Microplastics Pollution in Urban Water Systems : Flow, actors, and control measures

    Författare :Emma Fältström; Stefan Anderberg; Annica Carlsson; Hamse Kjerstadius; Lian Lundy; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Municipalities; Plastic; Pollutants; Preventive measures; Stormwater; Wastewater; Water treatment;

    Sammanfattning : Water pollution has long been considered a challenge in urban areas. Urban wastewater and stormwater act as transport pathways for pollutants from urban areas to receiving waters. Microplastics are a pollution problem of growing concern. LÄS MER

  4. 14. District Heating-driven Membrane Distillation for Water Purification in Industrial Applications

    Författare :Daniel Minilu Woldemariam; Andrew Martin; Massimo Santarelli; Wojciech Kujawski; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Membrane Distillation; District Heating; Wastewater Purification; Heat demand; Technoeconomy; Membrandestillation; Fjärrvärme; Avloppsvattenrening; Värme-behov; Teknoekonomi; Energy Technology; Energiteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Domestic and industrial water demands are growing globally due to population growth and rapid economic development, placing increasing strains on water resources. Wastewater effluents generated from these and other activities impact the environment and are thus subject to tightening regulation. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Towards sustainability of environmental protection : recovery of nutrients from wastewater filtration and the washing of arsenic contaminated soils

    Författare :Lea Rastas Amofah; Helen French; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; VA-teknik; Urban Water Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : Conventional methods for wastewater treatment and remediation of the sites withcontaminated soils focus on protection of human health, receiving waters and theenvironment. Towards this end, these methods concentrate on the reduction or removal of polluting substances, and therefore, are not well suited for creating resources through the recovery of nutrients, energy and decontaminated soils.
