1. X-ray scattering and spectroscopy of supercooled water and ice
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents experimental studies of water and ice at near-atmospheric pressures using intense x-rays only accessible at synchrotrons and free-electron lasers. In particular, it focuses on the deeply supercooled, metastable state and its implications on ice nucleation. LÄS MER
2. X-ray spectroscopy on diatomic and cationic molecules
Sammanfattning : X-ray spectroscopy have been used to study the electronic structure of diatomic and cationic molecules. X-ray absorption spectra of the molecular cations N2+, O2+, and CO+ have been measured. LÄS MER
3. Coupled electron-nuclear dynamics in inelastic X-ray scattering
Sammanfattning : This Thesis is devoted to theoretical and experimental studies of resonant inelastic X-ray scattering (RIXS) of carbon monoxide and water molecules. Using state-of-the-art ab initio electronic structure calculations and a time-dependent wave packet formalism, we make a complete analysis of the experimental RIXS spectra of the two molecular systems. 4. Angle-Dependent Electron Spectroscopy Studies of C60 Compounds and Carbon Nanotubes
Sammanfattning : Fullerenes have been shown to constitute a prototypical building block for truly nanometer-sized devices and exotic nanounit-based materials, e.g., high-temperature superconductors. LÄS MER
5. Ultrafast spin dynamics at the nanoscale : using coherent X-ray and terahertz radiation
Sammanfattning : The field of ultrafast magnetism is driven by the growing need for faster and more efficient magnetic data storage, which comprises the vast majority of the digital information worldwide. However, after more than two decades of intense research, the understanding of the fundamental physical processes governing the transfer of angular momentum necessary for magnetic switching, is still lacking, partially hampered by the appropriate experimental tools.
