1. The economics of residual waste : policies, price discrimination, and welfare
Sammanfattning : Paper [I]: In this study, a net social cost framework is applied to provide insights on policy issues relating to the cross-border trade in waste fuel. We estimate the net social cost of using imported waste fuel in a highly efficient combined heat and power plant (CHP) in a cold climate by considering both private costs and benefits as well as external costs related to energy production, alternative waste management and fuel transport. 2. A System Perspective on District Heating and Waste Incineration
Sammanfattning : Energy recovery by waste incineration has a double function as waste treatment method and supplier of electricity and/or heat, thereby linking the systems of energy and waste management. Both systems are undergoing great changes, mainly due to new regulations. LÄS MER
3. Choosing environmental policy instruments : Case studies of municipal waste policy in Sweden and England
Sammanfattning : European governments have during the last couple of decades shown an interest in new types of environmental policy instruments (EPIs) such as environmental taxes, tradable permit schemes and voluntary approaches, as opposed to relying on traditional forms of regulation. The interest in so-called ‘new’ EPIs (NEPIs) has led many governments to commit both to a more diverse EPI mix and to a policy process characterised by procedural rationality, in terms of considering a wide range ofalternative instruments and assessing them in a systematic and transparent way. 4. Anaerobic Treatment of Agricultural Residues and Wastewater - Application of High-Rate Reactors
Sammanfattning : The production of methane via anaerobic digestion of agricultural residues and industrial wastewater would benefit society by providing a clean fuel from renewable feedstocks. This would reduce the use of fossil-fuel-derived energy and reduce environmental impact, including global warming and pollution. LÄS MER
5. Three essays on Swedish energy and climate policy options : dynamic CGE-models with heterogeneous forests and an econometric model of fuel substitution in district heating plants
Sammanfattning : This thesis contains three papers. Paper I: Demand for waste as fuel in the Swedish district heating sector: a production function approach. LÄS MER
