  1. 1. Accounting for Individual Speaker Properties in Automatic Speech Recognition

    Författare :Daniel Elenius; Björn Granström; Mats Blomberg; Torjbjörn Svendsen; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MAP; MLLR; VTLN; speaker characteristics; dynamic modeling; child; Information and language technology; Informations- och språkteknologi;

    Sammanfattning : In this work, speaker characteristic modeling has been applied in the fields of automatic speech recognition (ASR) and automatic speaker verification (ASV). In ASR, a key problem is that acoustic mismatch between training and test conditions degrade classification per- formance. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Estimation of Speaker Age : Effects of Speech Properties and Speech Material

    Författare :Sara Skoog Waller; Mårten Eriksson; Billy Jansson; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Age estimation; Voice perception; Speech properties; Speech rate; Vocal disguise; Age disguise; Accuracy; Confidence; Spontaneous speech;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to investigate factors related to accuracy in estimation of speaker age and the role of certain speech properties in perception and manipulation of speaker age, as well as their interaction with the speech material that the age estimates were based on. This thesis consists of three studies. LÄS MER

  3. 3. The introductory it pattern in academic writing by non-native-speaker students, native-speaker students and published writers : A corpus-based study

    Författare :Tove Larsson; Merja Kytö; Erik Smitterberg; Randi Reppen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; The introductory it pattern; stance markers; non-native-speaker students; native-speaker students; published expert writing; learner language; corpus linguistics; English; Engelska;

    Sammanfattning : The present compilation thesis investigates the use of a pattern that is commonly found in academic writing, namely the introductory it pattern (e.g. it is interesting to note the difference). The main aim is to shed further light on the formal and functional characteristics of the pattern in academic writing. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Lip-motion and speech biometrics in person recognition

    Författare :Maycel Isaac Faraj; Högskolan i Halmstad; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Audio-visual recognition; biometrics; Biometric recognition; Speaker verification; Speaker authentication; Person identification; Lip movements; Motion; Structure tensor; Orientation; Optical flow; Hidden Markov Model; Gaussian Markov Model; Lip-motion; Image analysis; Bildanalys;

    Sammanfattning : Biometric identification techniques are frequently used to improve security, e.g. in financial transactions, computer networks and secure critical locations. The purpose of biometric authentication systems is to verify an individual by her biological characteristics including those generating characterisitic behaviour. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Werden – ein Chamäleon der Sprache : Zum Werdegang von werden

    Författare :Margret Osterkamp; Tyska; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; auxiliary; scalarity; actionality; aspectuality; Vendler classes; internal temporal properties; inchoativity; speaker reference; implied speaker confirmation;

    Sammanfattning : The topic of this thesis is the evolutionary history of werden in German with reference to its four functions – as full verb, as copula and as auxiliary verb in combination with the past participle in the Vorgangspassiv and also in combination with the infinitive to denote future and, in some circumstances, epistemic modal events. On the basis of scrutiny of diachronic results and a discussion of views put forward in the synchronic literature and empirically corroborated by a detailed analysis of a corpus, it is argued that the unique position of werden in the German verb arena was made possible by its non-specified meaning of dynamic existence, by its medial, non-agentive diathesis and, crucially, by its additivity, and its actional and aspectual underdetermination.
