16. A Spectroscopic Study of Interfacial Films: Internal Structuring, Stability, and Hydration
Sammanfattning : Monolayers of molecules are capable of completely changing the nature of surfaces and their interactions with the surroundings despite their almost negligible thickness. In the research presented in this doctoral thesis the surface specific technique Vibrational Sum Frequency Spectroscopy (VSFS) was combined with the Langmuir trough to investigate various manifestations of monolayers, such as biomimetic membranes, mono methyl branched long chain fatty acids in contact with air, and hydrophobic silane monolayers in contact with water. 17. Gas sensitivity of modified metal-oxide-semiconductor devices
Sammanfattning : Gas sensitive thin metal-oxide-semiconductor (MOS) structures have been used to study the effect of different modifications of the gate metal. In order to increase the selectivity of the gas sensor photoresist was used as a gas permeable membrane. LÄS MER
18. Employment of Palladium Pincer Complex Catalysts and Lewis Acids for Synthesis and Transformation of Organometallic Compounds
Sammanfattning : This thesis is mainly focused on the development of new palladium catalyzed transformations using so-called “pincer” complexes. These complexes were applied as catalysts in two important areas of organometallic chemistry: substitution of propargylic substrates by dimetallic reagents; and allylation of aldehydes and imines by allylstannanes. 19. Creation of a Nanometer-Scale Toolbox for Molecular Motor Transport-Circuits
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents studies of molecular motors in interaction with nm-scale structures, as well as the development of a set of tools that can be used for the construction of custom-designed nano-transportation systems. In our studies, we have used the latest nanoscale technology and combined this with advanced results from chemistry and biomedical sciences. LÄS MER
20. Polyethylene – metal oxide particle nanocomposites for future HVDC cable insulation : From interface tailoring to designed performance
Sammanfattning : Low-density polyethylene (LDPE) nanocomposites containing metal oxide nanoparticles are considered as promising candidates for insulating materials in future high-voltage direct-current (HVDC) cables. The significant improvement in dielectric properties compared with unfilled polymer is attributed to the large and active interface between the nanoparticles and the polymer. LÄS MER
