  1. 1. Interactions between Streptococcus pyogenes and the human immune defence

    Författare :Maria E Nilsson; immunologi och glykobiologi - MIG Avdelningen för mikrobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; M protein; Streptococcus pyogenes; Streptolysin O; The complement system; Neutrophils; Biomedical sciences; Biomedicinska vetenskaper; General biomedical sciences; Biomedicinska vetenskaper allmänt ; Microbiology; transplantation; Immunology; serology; mykologi; virologi; bakteriologi; Mikrobiologi; mycology; virology; Immunologi; serologi; Infections; Infektioner; Clinical biology; Klinisk biologi; bacteriology;

    Sammanfattning : Streptococcus pyogenes is an important human pathogen frequently colonizing the throat and skin of humans. To facilitate colonization and spread and to avoid the host immune defence, streptococci are endowed with a variety of virulence factors, two of which are investigated in this thesis namely streptolysin O (SLO) and M protein. 2. 2. Identification of Arthritis Susceptibility Genes in Mice and Humans

    Författare :Emma Ahlqvist; Immunologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Immunologi; transplantation; serology; Immunology; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; Biomedicinska vetenskaper; QTL; Biomedical sciences; Rheumatoid arthritis; Collagen-induced arthritis; serologi; Skeleton; muscle system; rheumatology locomotion; Skelett; muskelsystem; reumatologi; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik;

    Sammanfattning : Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic autoimmune disease with a largely unknown aetiology. The risk of developing RA is partly dependent on genetic factors, which has motivated extensive efforts to identify the disease regulating genes as away to understand disease pathogenesis. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Quantification of gene expression in single cells

    Författare :Martin Bengtsson; Islet cell physiology; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; Biomedical sciences; Biomedicinska vetenskaper; quantitative gene expression analysis; single cell PCR; islets of Langerhans;

    Sammanfattning : Studies of apparently homogeneous cell populations and single cells often give highly divergent results. Cells exhibit varying responsiveness to stimuli and gene expression and they are in many aspects stochastic and unpredictable. We have developed a method to measure gene expression quantitatively in individual cells with real-time RT-PCR. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Involvement of eicosanoid signalling in epithelial cell migration

    Författare :Oliver Broom; Malmö Cellpatologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; histokemi; cytokemi; Medicin människa och djur ; Histology; Medicine human and vertebrates ; Biomedicinska vetenskaper; Biomedical sciences; Integrin; Eicosanoid; COX-2; Cell migration; cytochemistry; histochemistry; Histologi; tissue culture; vävnadskultur;

    Sammanfattning : The development of inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) and colon cancer (CC) has been shown to involve the up-regulation of inflammatory mediators and the machinery producing them such as the eicosanoids. Changes in the expression of extracellular matrix proteins and their related integrin receptors have also been shown to be important in the advancement IBD and CC. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : This thesis presents studies of molecular motors in interaction with nm-scale structures, as well as the development of a set of tools that can be used for the construction of custom-designed nano-transportation systems. In our studies, we have used the latest nanoscale technology and combined this with advanced results from chemistry and biomedical sciences. LÄS MER
