1. Exploring functionalization of colloidal silica for nanoparticle-stabilized emulsions
Sammanfattning : The main objective of this thesis was to evaluate how surface functionalized colloidal silica can be utilized in emulsions stabilized solely by particles, so called Pickering emulsions. To achieve this, water-dispersed silica nanoparticles were functionalized with hydrophilic and hydrophobic groups. LÄS MER
2. Magnetically governed self-assembly of soft matter : A look into interfacial layering, crystallization and percolation
Sammanfattning : Self-organisation is the key route for assembling colloidal particles into well-defined structures. Decisive for this are the interactions between the constituents, which are amongst others steric, electrostatic or magnetic. LÄS MER
3. Construction of Five-Membered Heterocyclic Compounds via Radical Cyclization
Sammanfattning : This thesis describes how radical cyclization chemistry can be applied for the construction of heterocyclic compounds. In the first part, a series of electron deficient α-phenylselenenylalkenes were prepared via a PhSeCl-addition/HCl-elimination sequence. LÄS MER
4. Immobilization and Interaction of Biomolecules at the Solid-Liquid Interface : Applications to Solid-Phase Analytical Techniques
Sammanfattning : The development of solid-phase-analytical techniques based on surface-concentration-measuring devices requires a stable and reproducible immobilization of biomolecules on well-characterized solid surfaces. This study reports on the immobilization of Immunoglobulin G, Protein A and Fibronectin on chemically modified silica surfaces. LÄS MER
5. Surface Modifications and Applications of Aqueous Silica Sols
Sammanfattning : Methods of modifying the surface of the particles of colloidal silica were developed and the effects of surface modification on the properties of colloidal silica were studied.Gamma-glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane (GPTMS) readily reacts with water to yield a hydrolysed silane that reacts readily with the silica surface.
