  1. 1. Development of the gastrointestinal tract in young mammals : Effects of enteral provocation with protease or phytohaemagglutinin in neonatal rats

    Författare :Ester Arevalo Sureda; Funktionell zoologi; []
    Nyckelord :gut; Intestine; Pancreas; development; precocious; protease; PHA; enterocytes; permeability; endocytosis; IgG; FcRn; Blimp1; T-lymphocyte; passive immunity; altricial; neonatal; suckling; athymic; rat; immunohistochemistry IHC ;

    Sammanfattning : The rat, as an altritial species, is born with an immature gastrointestinal tract and intestinal barrier function, which is highly absorptive to milk-borne bioactive molecules that can pass undigested and reach the general circulation of the suckling newborn. This passage occurs by the neonatal-Fc-receptor (FcRn) binding and trancytosis of immunoglobulin G in the proximal small intestine (SI) and by the highly endocytic vacuolated enterocytes non-selectively in the distal SI. 2. 2. Haemostatic function in precocious myocardial infarction and vein graft occlusion after coronary artery bypass grafting

    Författare :Elisabeth Moor; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The present study examined the role of blood coagulation and fibrinolytic function in patients with coronary heart disease in two settings; in patients with precocious myocardial infarction in whom thrombosis is considered to constitute an important pathogenic mechanism and in unselected patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) in whom early thrombotic occlusion of vein grafts is a considerable problem. Particular attention was paid to coagulation factor Vll and the tissue factor pathway inhibitor (TFPI) in the young post-infarction patients. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Involvement of the immune system in phytohaemagglutinin-induced structural and functional precocious maturation of the gut in young rats

    Författare :Olena Prykhodko; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cytokines; mucosa; development; Gastrointestinal tract; mammals; immune system; T-cells;

    Sammanfattning : Mammals are born with an immature gastrointestinal (GI) tract that allows the uptake of the specific nutrients and bioactive macromolecules in the milk, especially the protecting maternal antibodies. Eventually during weaning, the intake of milk decreases while that of solid food increases, and the GI system undergoes prominent structural and functional changes adapting the young this dietary change. 4. 4. Induced Growth and Precocious Maturation of the Digestive System in Suckling Rats and Pigs after Exposure to Red Kidney Bean Lectin

    Författare :Ann Linderoth; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi; Neurologi; neurophysiology; neuropsychology; Neurology; Fysiologi; Physiology; Djurfysiologi; Animal physiology; sucrase; lactase; amylase; trypsin; weaning; small intestine; glucocorticoids; endocytosis; dissacchridases; intestinal permeability; PHA; pancreas; Development; phytohaemagglutinin;

    Sammanfattning : The timing of the postnatal development of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract in mammals is influenced by dietary and hormonal factors. It was hypothesized that accelerated GI cell turnover during maturation would result in a precoucios conversion to more mature digestive functions. LÄS MER

  5. 5. A star is born : development of NT* as a new biotechnological tool based on the mechanism of pH dependent dimerization of the spidroin N-terminal domain

    Författare :Médoune Sarr; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Proteins are widely used in research and in the pharmaceutical industry but the production of recombinant protein can be tedious, costly and time-consuming due to unwanted aggregation. Strategies to circumvent aggregation, e.g. the use of solubility tags, must be evaluated experimentally and successful results are not always obtained. LÄS MER
