  1. 1. Platelet monoamine oxidase : From genetic regulation to behavior

    Författare :Håkan Garpenstrand; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurosciences; monoamine oxidase; platelet; personality; CNS; serotonin; dopamine; Neurovetenskap; Neurology; Neurologi; medicinsk farmakologi; Medical Pharmacology;

    Sammanfattning : Genetic and environmental factors contribute to the development of personality and vulnerability forpsychiatric disorders. The activity of monoamine oxidase in platelets (trbc-MAO), which is mainlygenetically determined, correlates to personality traits such as sensation-seeking and impulsiveness, andlow trbc-MAO activity is more common in patients with type 2 alcoholism. Sammanfattning : The subjects were 130 male prisoners in Swedish jails were examined by SCID and the diagnoses given in terms of DSM-IV. The most common mental disorder was drug abuse. On Axis II several personality disorders were diagnosed. Personality assessments were made by KSP. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Juvenile and adult criminality : relationships to platelet MAO activity, triiodothyronine, ADHD, conduct disorder and psychopathy

    Författare :Per Olof Alm; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Debut age; criminality; risk; monoamine oxidase; triiodothyronine; conduct disorder; psychopathy; juvenile delinquency; longitudinal research;

    Sammanfattning : Indicators for persistent risk criminality in a group of grown up juvenile delinquents were investigated. The subjects had been examined In 'Young Lawbreakers': a study of 192 boys from an urban area, aged 11-14 years in 1959-1963. They had committed crime against property, serious enough for prosecution if not being underaged. LÄS MER

  4. 4. The Relation between Serotonergic Biomarkers and Behaviour : – studies on human primates, non-human primates and transgenic mice

    Författare :Hanna-Linn Wargelius; Dan Larhammar; Lars Oreland; Claudia Fahlke; Elias Eriksson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Serotonin; MAO-A; 5-HTT; MAO-B; alcohol; ADHD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Medicin; Medicine; Neuroscience; Neurovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Rationale: The serotonergic system is involved in the modulation of emotion and plays an important role for personality and vulnerability for psychiatric disorders. In the papers included in this thesis, we investigate three biological factors that have been studied in relation to psychiatric symptoms: Platelet monoamine oxidase B (MAO-B) activity, and variations in the MAO-A and the serotonin transporter (5HTT) genes. Sammanfattning : Aims: To study efficacy and safety of alprazolam, imipramine, and placebo in treatment of panic disorder, to investigate comorbidity with social phobia, to determine platelet monoamine oxidase (MAO), and to follow the long-term course in a cohort of patients with panic disorder.Subjects and Methods: A double-blind comparison of alprazolam, imipramine, and placebo was performed in 123 Scandinavian outpatients with panic disorder according to DSM-III.
