  1. 1. The Relation between Serotonergic Biomarkers and Behaviour : – studies on human primates, non-human primates and transgenic mice

    Författare :Hanna-Linn Wargelius; Dan Larhammar; Lars Oreland; Claudia Fahlke; Elias Eriksson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Serotonin; MAO-A; 5-HTT; MAO-B; alcohol; ADHD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Medicin; Medicine; Neuroscience; Neurovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Rationale: The serotonergic system is involved in the modulation of emotion and plays an important role for personality and vulnerability for psychiatric disorders. In the papers included in this thesis, we investigate three biological factors that have been studied in relation to psychiatric symptoms: Platelet monoamine oxidase B (MAO-B) activity, and variations in the MAO-A and the serotonin transporter (5HTT) genes. 2. 2. Molecular imaging of the serotonin system in human behaviour

    Författare :Jacqueline Borg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :positron emission tomography; serotonin; 5-HT1A receptor; 5-HTT; 5HTTÖPR; WAY100635; MADAM; cognitive functions; personality;

    Sammanfattning : The serotonin (5-HT) neurotransmission system has a role in essential physiological and psychological functions such as sleep, eating behaviour, sexuality, perception, emotion and cognition. Individual measures of serotonin biomarkers in the living human brain can be obtained using positron emission tomography (PET) imaging, direct measures of. LÄS MER

  3. 3. PET evaluation of central serotonergic neurotransmission in women

    Författare :Hristina Jovanovic; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :PET; serotonin; 5-HT1A receptor; 5-HTT; WAY100635; MADAM; premenstrual dysphoric disorder; borderline personality disorder; gonadal hormones;

    Sammanfattning : The serotonin (5-HT) system is of central interest in the patophysiology and treatment of several psychiatric disorders including depression, anxiety and suicide. In women, functioning of the 5-HT system is of particular importance since they have been found to suffer more often from 5-HT-associated disorders compared to men. LÄS MER

  4. 4. PET studies of the serotonin transporter in the human brain

    Författare :Johan Lundberg; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :positron emission tomography; MADAM; WAY 100635; 5-HTT; 5-HT1A receptors; receptor occupancy; major depressive disorder; citalopram; escitalopram;

    Sammanfattning : The serotonin (5-HT) system attracts considerable attention in research on the pathophysiology and drug treatment of neuropsychiatric disorders. The brain imaging technique Positron Emission Tomography (PET) allows for examination of neurotransmission systems in the human brain in vivo. LÄS MER

  5. 5. The Serotonin Transporter and the Vesicular Monoamine Transporters During Development

    Författare :Stefan R Hansson; Lunds universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; whiskers; lateral geniculate; infraorbital nerve; neural crest; merkel; somatosensory cortex; Key wordscitalopram; thalamus; visual cortex; Physiology; Fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : In the present study, the mRNA encoding the serotonin transporter (5-HTT) and two isoforms of the vesicular monoamine transporters (VMAT1 and VMAT2) have been mapped in the rat throughout gestation and early postnatal development using in situ hybridization, RT PCR and immunohistochemistry. 5-HTT mRNA was found in serotonergic neurons and VMAT2 mRNA in all monoaminergic neurons from early gestation.
