  1. 1. A Theoretical Investigation of the Octapeptide Region in the Human Prion Protein

    Författare :Eva-Stina Riihimäki; Lars Kloo; José Manuel Martínez; Francisco Javier Luque Garriga; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; prion protein; copper; octapeptide; structure; force field parameters; coordination; non-periodic boundary conditions; Inorganic chemistry; Oorganisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Den kopparbindande egenskapen hos prionproteiner är sannolikt kopplad till proteinets funtion. Det mänskliga prionproteinet innehåller ett kopparbindande oktapeptidområde, där PHGGGWGQ-sekvensen upprepas fyra gånger i följd. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Structure and Dynamics of the Copper-binding Octapeptide Region in the Human Prion Protein

    Författare :Eva-Stina Riihimäki; Lars Kloo; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Inorganic chemistry; prion protein; copper; molecular dynamics simulation; solvation model; metal ions; coordination; Oorganisk kemi; Inorganic chemistry; Oorganisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : The copper-binding ability of the prion protein may be closely connected to its function. Identifying the exact function of the prion protein can clarify the underlying mechanism in prion diseases. In this work, the copper-binding octapeptide region in the human prion protein has been studied. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Factors inhibiting ingestive behavior in chronic renal failure

    Författare :Abdel-Hafiz Mamoun; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :rat; uremia; cholecystokinin octapeptide; nitric oxide; leptin; glucose; amino acids; anorexia; ingestive behavior; peritoneal dialysis solutions; hemodialysis;

    Sammanfattning : Protein-energy malnutrition and wasting occur in many patients with chronic renal failure. Reduced nutrient intake because of anorexia, nausea and vomiting, caused by uremic toxicity is an important factor. LÄS MER

  4. 4. On the cerebrospinal fluid disposition and neurobiological role of cholecystokinin in man

    Författare :Tove Gunnarsson; Conny Nordin; Erik Widerlöv; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Cholecystokinin (CCK) is the most abundant neuropeptide in the brain, where it acts as a neurotransmitter and neuromodulator. The tetrapeptide CCK-4 and the octapeptide CCK-8 have been implicated in various behavioural and physiological functions, such as anxiety, pain and satiety. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Interaction-mediating sequences within class I viral fusion glycoproteins : their roles in viral infection and in applications

    Författare :Simin Zhang; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Class I viral fusion glycoproteins facilitate fusion of the viral envelope with cell membranes and entry of the virus into the cell, through extensive short sequence-specific interactions. Regions mediating these interactions include the N-terminal hydrophobic fusion peptide, a pair of extended 4,3-hydrophobic heptad repeats (HRs), a membrane-active membrane proximal external region (MPER), a hydrophobic transmembrane domain and the cytoplasmic tail region.
