6. Diesel exhaust and wood smoke : mechanisms, inflammation and intervention
Sammanfattning : Background Particulate matter (PM) air pollution is associated with increased respiratory and cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Diesel engine exhaust (DE) and wood combustion are major contributors to ambient air pollution and adverse health effects. LÄS MER
7. Studies on the deposition, bioavailability and systemic activity of glucocorticoids in man
Sammanfattning : The local deposition, pharmacokinetics, and systemic activity of inhaled and intranasal glucocorticosteroids in different formulations and devices(ICSs) has been investigated. After nasal administration of the ICS budesonide (Bud), the systemic availability (F) was found to be significantly higher from an aqueous pump spray and from the powder inhaler Turbuhaler, than from a pressurized metered dose inhaler (pMDI), and the uptake process was slower and less complete with the pMDI formulation. 8. Health-related aerosol particle studies, respiratory tract deposition and indoor source identification
Sammanfattning : Aerosol particles have, since Classical Antiquity, been linked to adverse effects on human health. It is estimated that the particles in urban air pollution causes 100 000 deaths in Europe each year, whereof 5 000 in Sweden. LÄS MER
9. Models of alveolar remodeling in chronic lung disease
Sammanfattning : Lung function is highly dependent on the structure of the lung parenchyma. Remodeling of the alveolar compartment is a central part of the pathology of chronic lung disease such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). LÄS MER
10. Development and comparison of in vitro toxicity methods for nanoparticles : Focus on lung cell exposure
Sammanfattning : Concerns for the toxic effects of airborne nanoparticles have been raised along with the increasing production of nanostructured materials. However, the health risks of nanoparticle exposure are currently not fully understood. The most commonly used techniques to study nanoparticle toxicity, both in vivo and in vitro, have several limitations. LÄS MER
