  1. 1. Testing palaeomagnetic and 14C based geochronological methods in the Baltic Sea

    Författare :Bryan Lougheed; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Baltic Sea; coastal; geochronology; palaeomagnetic secular variation; PSV; radiocarbon; 14C; reservoir age; R t ; ΔR; salinity; δ18O; geomagnetic field; Holocene; deglacial; Fennoscandia.;

    Sammanfattning : The Baltic Sea is a continental shelf sea that is influenced by both river runoff and marine water. The two water masses are vertically stratified in the Baltic Sea, resulting in a positive, estuarine circulation system, which has undergone changes in the past due to isostatic uplift of the Baltic basin. 2. 2. Glaciodynamics, Deglacial Landforms and Isostatic Uplift during the last Deglaciation of Norrbotten, Sweden

    Författare :Mattias Lindén; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Sedimentologi; Sedimentology; Geologi; physical geography; Geology; glaciotectonic; thrust stacking; deforming bed; ribbed moraine; Niemisel moraine; De Geer moraine; isostatic uplift; glaciodynamics; deglaciation; klimatologi; kartografi; marklära; Fysisk geografi; geomorfologi; geomorphology; cartography; climatology; pedology;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to reconstruct the glaciodynamics, deglacial landforms, isostatic uplift and to date the deglaciation. Glaciodynamics and deglacial landforms were focused on to provide a process and depositional model for De Geer moraine and Niemisel moraine and to reveal their internal and spatial relationship, based on detailed sedimentological and structural investigations. 3. 3. Deglacial impact of the Scandinavian Ice Sheet on the North Atlantic climate system

    Författare :Francesco Muschitiello; Barbara Wohlfarth; Raimund Muscheler; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; climate; North Atlantic; last deglaciation; isotope geochemistry; chronology; climate modeling; Marine Geology; maringeologi;

    Sammanfattning : The long warming transition from the Last Ice Age into the present Interglacial period, the last deglaciation, holds the key to our understanding of future abrupt climate change. In the last decades, a great effort has been put into deciphering the linkage between freshwater fluxes from melting ice sheets and rapid shifts in global ocean-atmospheric circulation that characterized this puzzling climate period. 4. 4. Retreat pattern and dynamics of glaciers and ice sheets: reconstructions based on meltwater features

    Författare :Martin Margold; Krister Jansson; Arjen Stroeven; Johan Kleman; Karin Helmens; Chris Stokes; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Palaeoglaciology; Cordilleran Ice Sheet; deglaciation; glacial meltwater features; glacial lake; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Sammanfattning : Glaciers and ice sheets covered extensive areas in the Northern Hemisphere during the last glacial period. Subsequently to the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM), they retreated rapidly and, except for Greenland and some other ice caps and glaciers, they vanished after the last glacial termination. LÄS MER

  5. 5. In the wake of deglaciation - sedimentary signatures of ice-sheet decay and sea-level change : Studies from south-central Sweden and the western Arctic Ocean

    Författare :Henrik Swärd; Matt O'Regan; Martin Jakobsson; Juha Pekka Lunkka; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; paleoenvironmental changes; last deglaciation; sedimentology; Lake Vättern; western Arctic Ocean; Mackenzie Trough; Herald Canyon; Marine Geology; maringeologi;

    Sammanfattning : Lacustrine and marine sedimentary archives help unravel details concerning the withdrawal of large ice sheets and resulting sea-level changes during the last deglaciation (22 -11 kyr). In a series of four manuscripts, this PhD thesis investigates the sedimentological signatures from deglacial processes at three key locations in the northern hemisphere: (i) Lake Vättern (LV) in south-central Sweden, (ii) Herald Canyon (HC) in the western Chukchi Sea, and (iii) Mackenzie Trough (MT) on the westernmost edge of the Canadian Beaufort Shelf.
