  1. 1. Experimental, petrological and geochemical investigations of ikaite (CaCO3·6H2O) formation in marine environments

    Författare :Elin Tollefsen; Alasdair Skelton; Carl-Magnus Mörth; Erik Sturkell; Andrew Putnis; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ikaite; petrology; experiment; geochemistry; marine environments; pseudomorphs; calcium carbonate; Ikka Fjord; glendonite; nepheline; siderite; paleotemperature; carbonatite; Geology; geologi;

    Sammanfattning : Carbonates are a group of minerals that play an essential role in several processes on planet Earth, for example in the global carbon cycle and as a product of biomineralisation. Calcite (CaCO3) is by far the most common mineral in the carbonate group, and the stable form of carbonate at Earth surface conditions. LÄS MER

  2. 2. High Arctic submarine glaciogenic landscapes : their formation and significance

    Författare :Francis Fletcher Freire; Richard Gyllencreutz; Martin Jakobsson; Haflidi Haflidason; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; High Arctic; GrIS; marine geophysics; glaciogenic landscapes; ice streams; submarine slides; Marine Geology; maringeologi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is focused on studies of glacial and slope morphology in the high Arctic of western Greenland shelf and the Molloy Hole seafloor spreading area, based on high-resolution acoustic methods and other geophysical data. The main purpose is to improve our understanding of glacial dynamics and associated processes in the marginal region of a large marine-terminating ice sheet. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Geology of Lagoa das Furnas, a crater lake on São Miguel, Azores archipelago

    Författare :Thommy Andersson; Otto Hermelin; Martin Jakobsson; Alasdair Skelton; Erik Sturkell; Richard Gyllencreutz; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Lagoa das Furnas; Azores; crater lake; geophysical mapping; tephrochronology; volcanic dome; Marine Geology; maringeologi;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, the results from a geophysical mapping and coring campaign of Lagoa das Furnas are presented. Specific focus is placed on the origin of a subaqueous volcanic cone mapped in the southern part of the lake. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Late Eocene through Oligocene calcareous nannofossils from the paleo-equatorial Pacific Ocean – taxonomy, preservation history, biochronology and evolution

    Författare :Teodora Blaj; Jan Backman; Jorijntje Henderiks; Isabella Raffi; Paul Bown; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; marine sediments; calcareous nannofossils; late Eocene; Oligocene; biochronology; evolution; morphometry; taxonomy; ODP Leg 199 Site 1218; paleo-equatorial Pacific Ocean; Historical geology and palaeontology; Historisk geologi och paleontologi; Marine Geoscience; marin geovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : This study aims to unravel the ecological and evolutionary dynamics within the calcareous nannofossil communities at the Eocene/Oligocene (E/O) transition and during the Oligocene time when Cenozoic 'icehouse' conditions were established. The main question this study aims to answer is whether the changes in the nannofossil assemblages were controlled by intrinsic evolutionary trends or if the changes were controlled by environmental factors such as changes in temperature and nutrient availability in the surface water. 5. 5. Early Palaeozoic jawed polychaetes with focus on polychaetaspids and ramphoprionids from the Silurian of Gotland, Sweden

    Författare :Mats Eriksson; Berggrundsgeologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fysisk geografi; Geologi; physical geography; Geology; chemistry; palaeobiogeography; palaeoecology; taxonomy; apparatus reconstructions; Silurian; Recent; Ordovician; early Palaeozoic; scolecodonts; Annelida; polychaeta;

    Sammanfattning : Jawed polychaete annelid worms were abundant and diverse in the early Palaeozoic seas and their jaws (scolecodonts) are common microfossils in sedimentary rocks of that age. Despite their abundance, relatively little work has been focused on these fossils. LÄS MER
