  1. 21. Hormonal regulation of phosphodiesterase 3B in adipocytes

    Författare :Rebecka Lindh; Signaltransduktionsforskning; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; secreting systems; diabetology; Endokrinologi; Endocrinology; caveolae localization ; phosphorylation interactions ; PDE3B adipocyte adipose tissue diabetes cAMP insulin ; lipolysis caveolin-1 ; sekretion; diabetologi;

    Sammanfattning : Insulin induced activation of the cAMP degrading enzyme phosphodiesterase (PDE) 3B in adipocytes is important for insulin mediated inhibition of lipolysis. The aim of this thesis was to contribute with knowledge on the acute activation of PDE3B in response to insulin and catecholamines in adipocytes. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Maf and Mitf transcription factors regulate pancreatic endocrine cell differentiation and function

    Författare :Magdalena Mazur; Stamcellscentrum (SCC); []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; pancreas development; beta cells; insulin; MafA; MafB; Mitf; diabetes;

    Sammanfattning : Diabetes - the imbalance in glucose homeostasis is partially caused by loss or dysfunction of pancreatic insulin producing β cells or development of insulin resistance. In Type 1 diabetes β cells are destroyed in the process of an autoimmune attack, whereas in Type 2 diabetes, islets produce insufficient amounts of insulin or the insulin cannot be used adequately. 3. 23. Down syndrome : Growth and endocrine impact

    Författare :Åsa Myrelid; Jan Gustafsson; Göran Annerén; Ann-Christine Lindgren; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Down syndrome; growth; growth charts; body proportions; growth hormone; thyroid function; metabolism; body composition; cognition; motor development; Downs syndrom; tillväxt; tillväxtkurvor; kroppsproportioner; tillväxthormon; sköldkörtelfunktion; metabolism; kroppssammansättning; kognitiv förmåga; motorisk utveckling; Paediatric medicine; Pediatrisk medicin; pediatrik; Pediatrics;

    Sammanfattning : Down syndrome (DS) is associated with psychomotor retardation, short stature and endocrine dysfunction. Statural growth is a well-known indicator of health. The growth in DS differs markedly from that of other children and there is a 20 cm reduction of final height as compared to target height. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Angiotensin II Receptors in the Human Coronary Circulation and in Heart Failure

    Författare :Emil Pantev; Kardiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Kardiovaskulära systemet; Cardiovascular system; Heart Failure; Human Coronary Arteries; Angiotensin II; AT receptors;

    Sammanfattning : Angiotensin II (Ang II) is a potent vasoconstrictor that is implicated in the pathogenesis of hypertension, heart failure and atherosclerosis. In this thesis, the efficacy and safety of Ang II receptor blockers (ARB) were evaluated. LÄS MER

  5. 25. On Cholecystokinin and Phospholipase A2 in Insulin Secretion - an Experimental Study With Reference to the Development of Diabetes

    Författare :Erik Simonsson; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Type 2 Diabetes; Insulin Resistance; Islet; Beta-cell; Insulin Secretion; Ca2 -Dependency; Intracellular Signalling; Phospholipase A2; Cholecystokinin; Non-glucose Secretagogues; Endocrinology; secreting systems; diabetology; Endokrinologi; sekretion; diabetologi;

    Sammanfattning : In view of unsolved issues regarding cellular events underlying the adaptation of insulin secretion to insulin resistance, together with the observation that insulin secretion induced by the gastrointestinal hormone and neuropeptide cholecystokinin (CCK) is not solely explained by phospholipase C-protein kinase C (PLC-PKC) pathway activation, this study aimed at delineate mechanisms responsible for the hyperinsulinemia in insulin resistance, with particular attention paid to the action of glucose vs. non-glucose secretagogues, such as CCK.
