11. Regulation of lipid metabolism in rat and 3T3-L1 adipocytes; Cross-talk between Insulin, the neuro-peptides PACAP/VIP and with B1-integrins
Sammanfattning : Type 2 Diabetes is a disorder that increases globally, but mainly in the western world. One of the hallmarks of Type 2 diabetes is insulin resistance in the target tissues of insulin action (adipose tissue, liver and skeletal muscle). In addition, most patients with Type 2 diabetes are obese. LÄS MER
12. Incretin Hormone Secretion - Studies in Human Subjects
Sammanfattning : Several different hormones are released from the intestine following a meal. In this thesis we have focused on the so called incretin hormones, glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP). LÄS MER
13. The neuropeptides GRP and PACAP and the function of the endocrine pancreas - A study on receptor deficient mice
Sammanfattning : The parasympathetic nerves are important for the regulation of insulin secretion, in particular after meal intake. Apart from acetylcholine, several neuropeptides can be found in the parasympathetic nerves innervating the islets of Langerhans, including gastrin-releasing peptide (GRP) and pituitary adenylate cyclase activating polypeptide (PACAP). 14. Gastrointestinal motility and the role of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH)
Sammanfattning : This thesis explores the relation between gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) and gastrointestinal symptoms and dysmotility. In primary Sjögren’s syndrome (pSS), a patient group with high levels of GnRH antibodies, associations between objective signs and symptoms of autonomic dysfunction (AD), impaired gastric emptying (IGE), and inflammatory and serological features were studied. 15. Expression and Regulation of Neuropeptide Y (NPY) in the Islets of Langerhans
Sammanfattning : This thesis deals with the expression, localization and regulation of neuropeptide Y (NPY) in the pancreatic islets of Langerhans under normal and experimental conditions. NPY is widely distributed in the mammalian nervous system and belongs to a family of closely related petides also comprising peptide YY (PYY) and pancreatic polypeptide (PP). LÄS MER
