  1. 6. To cut or not to cut? Episiotomy in vacuum extraction

    Författare :Victoria Ankarcrona; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Obstetric anal sphincter injury (OASIS) may cause anal incontinence, as well as sexual dysfunction and psychological trauma. Mediolateral and lateral episiotomy have been shown to be protective against OASIS in nulliparous women delivered by vacuum extraction (VE). LÄS MER

  2. 7. Epidemiological studies of vacuum extraction delivery : incidence, risk factors and subsequent childbearing

    Författare :Charlotte Elvander; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to bring focus on factors and outcomes associated with vacuum extraction delivery (VE). Delivery by VE is associated with both maternal risks (such as obstetric anal sphincter ruptures, postpartum hemorrhage and a negative birth experience) and infant risks (such as scalp lacerations, cephalohematoma, intracranial hemorrhage and brachial plexus injury). 3. 8. Vacuum extraction and pelvic floor injury : a randomized controlled trial and cohort studies

    Författare :Sandra Bergendahl; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Pelvic floor dysfunction (PFD) affects many women, especially after complicated childbirth. The impact of a prolonged second stage on PFD is not clear, while the effects of operative vaginal birth (OVB) and obstetric anal sphincter injury (OASI) are better known, especially concerning the risk of anal incontinence (AI). 4. 9. Traction force and long-term outcome in children born after vacuum-assisted delivery

    Författare :Stefhanie Romero; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Introduction: Vacuum-assisted delivery (VAD) is used in cases of dystocia or foetal distress in the second stage of labour. The frequency of VADs differs around the world, and in Sweden they account for six to nine percent of all deliveries. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Severe asphyxia due to substandard care during labour

    Författare :Sophie Berglund; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Asphyxia; Apgar score; labour; delivery; oxytocin; vacuum extraction; Caesarean section; substandard care; medical malpractice; cerebral palsy; neonatal resuscitation; perinatal death; neonatal death; fetal blood sampling; CTG; FHR;

    Sammanfattning : Aim: The objective of the thesis was to describe the most common causes of substandard care during labour contributing to severe asphyxia or neonatal death, to study risk factors related to asphyxia associated with substandard care and to explore the occurrence of substandard care during labour. Background: There are about 100 000 infants born every year in Sweden. LÄS MER
