21. Biological and histological factors as predictors in rectal cancer patients : A study in a clinical trial of preoperative radiotherapy
Sammanfattning : With improved surgical techniques and preoperative radiotherapy (RT) the local recurrence rate in rectal cancer patients has been reduced, however the mortality rate is still high and there is a huge variation in the response to preoperative RT in patients with the same tumour stage. To improve patient’s survival, it is of great importance to identify good prognostic and predictive factors that help us to select the best suited patients for preoperative RT in the future. LÄS MER
22. Prognostic markers in prostate cancer : studies of a watchful waiting cohort with long follow up
Sammanfattning : Background: Prostate Cancer (PC) is a common and highly variable disease. Using current diagnostic methods, the prostate specific antigen (PSA) blood test and histological grading of prostate tissue needle biopsies, it is often difficult to evaluate whether the patient has a PC that requires active treatment or not. 23. The role of new ultrasound modalities to refine the diagnostic workup on women with cervical carcinoma
Sammanfattning : Background: Cervical cancer is the fourth most common female cancer in the world and has traditionally been clinically staged not including imaging. Despite that, clinicians depend on diagnostic imaging in the management of patients to triage them to treatment. LÄS MER
24. Resonance sensor technology for detection of prostate cancer
Sammanfattning : Prostate cancer is the most common type of cancer in men in Europe and the USA. Some prostate tumours are regarded as stiffer than the surrounding normal tissue, and therefore it is of interest to be able to reliably measure prostate tissue stiffness. The methods presently used to detect prostate cancer are inexact, and new techniques are needed. LÄS MER
25. Optimization and validation of a species-specific in vivo approach for studies on growth and progression of neural crest derived tumours
Sammanfattning : Background: Despite great advantages in cancer therapeutics during the last decades, therapy-resistance remains a problem in the majority of malignancies. Hence, development of more effective therapeutics is critical to enhance survival of patients with cancer. LÄS MER
