1. The Columnar Lined Esophagus: aspects on the assessment of dysplasia and on the relationship with the esophageal submucosal glands
Sammanfattning : Columnar metaplasia, where columnar epithelium replaces the normal squamous epithelium in esophagus, is considered to be a precancerous condition in which the development of adenocarcinoma can be followed through various grades of dysplasia. The interpretation of these histological changes is subjective and suffers from considerable inter-observer variation among pathologists. LÄS MER
2. Prognostic markers in prostate cancer : studies of a watchful waiting cohort with long follow up
Sammanfattning : Background: Prostate Cancer (PC) is a common and highly variable disease. Using current diagnostic methods, the prostate specific antigen (PSA) blood test and histological grading of prostate tissue needle biopsies, it is often difficult to evaluate whether the patient has a PC that requires active treatment or not. 3. The Prognostic and Treatment Predictive Value of Proliferation and TIMP-1 in Breast Cancer
Sammanfattning : Breast cancer is the most common tumour form and the second leading cause of death in solid tumours in women in the Western world. Despite improvements in the treatment, a considerable number of patients will relapse and die from their breast cancer. LÄS MER
4. Epidermal keratinocytes studied by X-ray microanalysis, with special reference to contact dermatitis : In vivo and in vitro studies of functional changes in human cells
Sammanfattning : By determining the intracellular elemental content, information can be obtained on the physiological status of cells. The cellular content of sodium, magnesium, phosphorus, sulfur, chloride, potassium and calcium can be indicative for proliferation, cell membrane damage or cell death. LÄS MER
5. Refined diagnosis and prognosis in soft tissue sarcoma - genetic profiles, biomarkers and prognostic models
Sammanfattning : This work aimed at evaluate diagnosis and prognosis in soft tissue sarcoma (STS): In study I, 32K bacterial artificial chromosome (BAC) arrays and gene expression profiling were applied to 18 leiomyosarcomas and 31 undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcomas (UPS), with the aim of identifying molecular subtype signatures. Both the gains/losses profiles and the gene expression signatures revealed striking similarities between the two tumour types. LÄS MER
