31. The effects of long chain alcohol blends on engine performance and spray characteristics in CI engines
Sammanfattning : Replacing fossil fuels with alternatives derived from renewable sources is one way of meeting society’s increasing need for mobility while also significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions from vehicles with internal combustion engines. To facilitate such a replacement, this thesis presents optical spray studies and engine experiments conducted to evaluate the potential of blends of biomass-derived alcohols and vegetable oils to serve as drop-in fuels for compression ignition engines. 32. Simulation of Combustion and Mixture Formation for Gasoline Direct Injection Engine Application
Sammanfattning : The development and introduction of new engine technologies are primarily motivated by the need to comply with increasingly stringent emissions legislation and to reduce fuel consumption. One of the most important of these new engine technologies is direct gasoline injection, which is considered to be an important and cost-effective measure to meet both targets. LÄS MER

34. The rotating injector as a tool for exploring DI diesel combustion and emissions formation processes
Sammanfattning : A diesel fuel injector has been modified to allow rotationaround its axis, driven by an electric motor. Injections at upto 6000 rpm from the rotating injector have been investigatedunder the influence of air swirl on one optical research engineand one optically accessible heavy-duty diesel engine. 35. Modeling Diesel spray combustion using a Detailed Chemistry Approach
Sammanfattning : The rapid development of computer hardware during the past decade has contributed substantially to advances in almost all branches of science. Computer modeling is being applied to increasingly small physical scales and increasingly large domains, facilitating the generation of advanced phenomenological models and models based on first principles.
