21. Concentration measurements in single particle microscopy
Sammanfattning : The topic of this thesis is the introduction of two novel methods for using single particle microscopy as a tool for absolute number concentration measurements of Brownian particles. The key idea of both methods is that in order to estimate number concentration, the size of the (three-dimensional) particle detection region has to be estimated. LÄS MER
22. Unraveling the molecular mechanisms of herpes simplex virus attachment and release using cell membrane mimics
Sammanfattning : The herpes simplex virus is a widespread human pathogen, most commonly known for causing cold sores. Its infection cycle is initiated with the formation of multiple bonds between viral glycoproteins and cellular glycosaminoglycans, which are long polysaccharide chains found close to the cell surface. 23. Experimental Study and Modelling of Spacer Grid Influence on Flow in Nuclear Fuel Assemblies
Sammanfattning : The work is focused on experimental study and modelling of spacer grid influence on single- and two-phase flow. In the experimental study a mock-up of a realistic fuel bundle with five spacer grids of thin plate spring construction was investigated. A special pressure measuring technique was used to measure pressure distribution inside the spacer. LÄS MER
24. Axial Mixing of Large Solids in Fluidised Beds – Modelling and Experiments
Sammanfattning : Fluidisation is a technology commonly found wherever particulate solids are to be transported, mixed and/or reacted with a gas. At present, it is a widespread technology with applications ranging from the production of carbon nanotubes in the manufacturing industry to the conversion of solid fuels in the heat and power sector. 25. Virus-cell membrane interactions - Binding studies of Herpes Simplex Virus using surface-sensitive techniques
Sammanfattning : Viruses are parasites capable of infecting all forms of life. They lack the ability to replicate by themselves and therefore hijack the replication machinery of cells to produce new viral copies, called virions. LÄS MER
