Sammanfattning : A number of environmental pollutants have been shown to mimick the action of the female sex hormone estrogen and are, therefore, suspected to be responsible for reproductive abnormalities seen in wildlife. 24. The effect of maternal malignancy on fertility, pregnancy, and neonatal outcomes
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis is to investigate whether a malignant disease in women increases the risk of fertility disturbances, pregnancy and delivery complications and also of adverse birth outcomes among their infants. By linkage between six national health registers, we obtained data for all children born in Sweden 1994-2011 and their mothers including information on malignancy diagnosis, method of conception (natural/ART), pregnancies, and health outcomes of the infants. 25. Cochlear implantation : experimental and clinical studies
Sammanfattning : Cochlear implantation makes hearing restoration possible in patients with severe to profound hearing loss. However, patients with residual hearing, where a cochlear implant may be combined with acoustic stimulation, and children with malformed cochleae, where the surgery itself as well as language training may be a challenge, are two important groups of patients that require special procedures.
